I got a call from the Tiffany sales person today (12-2-08) and he told me they had a PRICE REDUCTION on their rings.
The diamond market is even feeling the effects of the economy.

It was like a 15% drop in price.

Anyway.....any appraisers out there want to tell me what this lose diamond is worth?

here are the specs.

thanks for your help

You can run a search here on Pricescope for similar-sized rounds H, SI1, GIA EX in cut quality. Tiffany & Co. charges a markup for their brand, which has value to many people. It''s your decision as to what it''s worth to you.

Also it does not seem like an ideal cut, HCA = 4.6.

According to the certification, it says it is an EXCELLENT CUT.

How did u calculate the HCA ?

thanks for your help.

Let''s put it this way...a 15% drop at Tiffany''s usually still puts you quite a bit higher (I''d say at least another 20%, maybe more) than most PS vendors and the stones often aren''t as nice...

Another thing that smells a little fishy is that its an SI1. I always thought Tiffany didn''t carry anything less than VS2?

That''s a great point. They don''t for engagement rings last time I checked...

Sorry....

I wasnt clear.

This diamond is NOT from Tiffany.

I was just commenting how I got a call from them indicating that a ring I saw, was being offered at a new price.

Good catch. H VS2 is the threshold.

It''s also a bit deeper than T&Co''s normal angle combination, but I thought that''s why it was in the clearance bin.

Now it doesn''t sound so much like a ''blue box special'' as a ''blue light'' special.

The first sentence of my first reply still applies.

Be aware that, by the numbers, this is on the steep/deep end of GIA that some pros take issue with.

Actually I think the threshold is I VS2 my good friend. Love your Santa hat too man! LOL

I have a friend who manages a T&Co that doesn''t stock lower than H as a rule, but I''m sure you''re right now that you mention it (I hope she is not reading PS or I will be chastised).

I saw you admiring the santa cap a few days ago. You should have one! Although my need is naturally greater...thanks maternal grandfather!

Who issued the ''certification''? Keep in mind that all opinions of "excellent" aren''t the same, so the mere word excellent doesn''t convey anything unless you know what the standard is.

It does appear to be on the deep end of the EX/EX range.

I must still be missing something in the translation, though.....why would a Tiffany sales rep be calling you about reductions on "their rings" if it''s not a Tiffany ring? I''m confused.

I am dealing with a wholesaler who sent me two diamonds to review.
I went to TIFFANY to get ideas on what I wanted in a ring.
He was just following up (the Tiff salesperson) letting me know the rings I had been shown were dropped in price from 32k to 28.6k and 34k to 29k

Hope that helps.

thanks
