What is your vegetarian option?

Hello,

I am a vegetarian and my FI isn't. We have attended our share of weddings where the veggie option...um...got less love than than the meat option ;)), so we are definitely going to make sure that our veggie selection is tasty. This experience made me wonder...if you are providing a veggie option, what are you providing?

Options under consideration with us include a veggie tamale with veggie mole, a white bean phyllo purse or grilled eggplant.

Argh. Thanks for reminding me to check this! I don't think we have a single vegetarian coming to our wedding, but I should probably make sure we have a selection, eh?

I'm going to a wedding in October where the vegetarian option is Portabella Mushroom Ravioli. It almost tempted me away from the Beef Medalions...almost.

I have a fish option for most of my "vegetarians" and the one true vegetarian gets two middle courses: one pasta, one risotto. It's not easy doing a truly veggie main course in Italy.

Butternut squash pumpkin ravioli.

timely question - DD and her fiance are vegetarian and Vegan. They are both working with their venue to offer scrumptious options for their guests. From what I have seen it seems the menu selections will be awesome and their wedding cake is going to be Vegan.
Now that I have to taste!! So far I know they are offering a fish in papillote as one of the main selections, not sure yet what they have decided on for Vegan selections. Hopefully, they will offer another meat.
Some of their appetizer options:

Goat cheese and Walnut Empanadas
Vegetable Fritters w/Sweet Chili Sauce
Assorted Brochettes
Polenta Towers w/artichoke, spinach, garlic
Brie and sliced pears
Tempura Artichoke hearts with a dipping sauce
Phyllo Triangles filled w/Feta and spinach, Walnut & goat cheese, Leeks & Parmesean
Veggie Pot Stickers

There is always pasta!! And salads!

Looking at the venue veggie entrees - Banana Leaf Tamales w/green olives topped w/adobado sauce (??)
Ratatouille Tamales with a cilantro beurre blanc
Green Chile Enchiladas
Roasted Sweet Spanish Red Peppers & Poblano chilies
Paella w/saffron, green beans and veggies
Grilled Vegetable Lasagne

I'm no longer a vegetarian, but still often pick the veggie option at weddings myself. Ours is a truffle mushroom ravioli and it out of this world!! So much so that they are servicing FI and I a special side of it in addition to our meal!

It's going to be a pasta option but we haven't decided on the exact dish yet.

My entire part of the guest list is vegetarian, so we're providing a catered Indian veggie option along with the steak and chicken. Was kinda a necessity for us!

We had a ton of veggie options at the cocktail hour including guacamole, truffled potato croquettes, and cheese quesidillas. For dinner starters we had butternut squash soup and a tomato basil mozzarella salad, and for a main option we had a yummy eggplant parm (which is what I ate.) Guests also had the option to order whatever they want if none of the options appealled to them which one my vegan friends did.

I honestly didn't think we had any veggies coming to our wedding, because I knew none of our friends were. Turns out the gf of a friend was (we had never met her, so we didn't know until he wrote it on the invite). We asked the venue what they offered and it ended up being a filled pasta (not quite a tortellini, but close enough) with a mushroom filling and some sort of cream sauce that I don't quite remember. Honestly, it sounded way better than the meat options because I'm such a pasta fan. If I had known the girl, I would've gone up and stolen some off of her plate :lickout: I regret not asking them for my own side portion.

The first courses were a soup and salad that were both veggie friendly, and there were a fair number of veggie hors doeuvres too.

I wanted an AWESOMW veggie option so our venue got in these AMAZING raviolis and had us try three different types with a few sauces, I don't recall what the final combo was, but we actually had more people get the veggie option than the chicken cause my mom raved about it (I took some home to her from the tasting). They served it with a side of veggies AND with the au gratin potatoes everyone else got. I thought that was strange.. carbs and carbs but the folks who ordered it had no complaints. And the potatoes really rocked.

My least favorite is the vegetarian napolean, badly prepared eggplant layered with unseasoned bland mozzerella and some herbage to make it look vague appetizing. I am often not in the mood for mass produced meat meals so at weddings I usually go for the veggie option and I can definitely back you up. Usually it sucks. Big time.
