The other weekend, I embarked on a craft project...to make the necklace i''d wear at my wedding. I was inspired to DIY because i had seen a similar style necklace the very morning after we were engaged and thought it was so beautiful, however it had the hefty pricetag of $700. Definately NOT in the budget. I''m really pleased with how my necklace turned out and now i''m thinking that i want to make my bridal party necklaces to wear as part of their present...the only thing is that the dress i''m most likely using as a BM dress is a halter and i''ve never really known what necklace suits a halter. any thoughts?

here''s the dress:

First, wow I love that dress!!!! Where''s it from? What lucky bridesmaids you have!

Second, I want to see a picture of the necklace you made for yourself!!!

Third, I would think a necklace of the general type worn by the model in the picture would be best for a halter...something not too long with a pendant?

I second everything albi said.

WOW- what a cool dress! Yes, it would be great to see what you''ve created for yourself.

At first, when you mentioned it was a halter, I admit that I wasn''t sure what would go with it. I don''t tend to wear necklaces with halters. But the one on the model fits perfectly. I would go for something like that, with a large stone/crystal as the pendant. Or maybe a choker-style necklace?

Thanks a and c:

I''ll try and take a picture of the necklace i strung up. basically, it''s a three strand coin pearl necklace. the pearls are a creamy, ivory color and it''s about 18 inches long. the clasp is a toggle and then the chain hangs down about another 8inches in the back with a single coin pearl at the bottom -- i did the back part because my dress has a fairly open back, so i like the detail...

i normally don''t wear a necklace with a halter either, so i''m thinking if i can''t find a pendant that i think works well, maybe i''ll try to figure out a nice, elegant earing option to be the focus...

the dresses are from bari jay and i kind of want to get one for myself as a regular party dress

It looks like a shorter necklace would draw the eye up from the low-cut on the halter. I like the length on the model.

Can''t wait to see pictures of the necklace(s)!

i was also thinking that it''d be an easy alteration to sew up the deep v of the halter a bit, so the girls wouldn''t have to worry about being too "revealing"

I don''t really like necklaces with a halter style dress but if you go to a local bead store they have kits on so many different styles. WARNING: Beading is addictive and NOT CHEAP. So don''t say I didn''t warn you

Here is the style I am obsessed with. I make bracelets and necklaces. I would be happy to tell you how to make them.

halter tops and Y necklaces.

lovelylulu - I don't mind to hijack your thread, but how much is the dress? I am considering getting for DH's cousin wedding this year.

What shows me I''m a PS addict? I was looking through my modern bride and I saw this and said, "Hey, it''s the LovelyLulu dress!" Smack me.

ANother idea, if you want to hide the cleavage: gather the low neck with a brooch. You''d probably have to forego the necklace, though. (I''m addicted to brooches, don''t mind me.)

Amber--yeah, you''re in good company.

oooh- those are pretty and unique!

ladies: thanks for all your input. you guys are the best! i got a quote from netbride for $125 and it comes in a bunch of colors. i think it''s a great party dress.

selflove: i love the idea of a brooch, but i''ve never, ever bought a brooch, so i''m not certain what kind of style to look for????

thanks tacori for the warning. i''ve made a few necklaces for myself and friends and i agree it''s not a cheap hobby, but i have definately saved money than say if i bought them from a store
