I never thought I had anything I had to contribute, but I went through one of my jewelry boxes that contains sentimental pieces that I don’t wear and found several pieces I can add to the color stone forum. My mom collects all sorts of green stones, mostly emerald and jade....but my dad bought this pendant for her in one of his trips to Thailand...it does not looks like Emerald or Jade. Anyone know what it is? I guessing it is a stone that is found in that part of the world?00B59E9C-EB62-47BB-A492-6E947F180CDF.jpeg

Onyx, Serpentine, Chrysoprase or Adventurine maybe?

You know, I think it just might be Maw sit sit. I looked up all of the stone types listed above, and the Maw sit sit jewelry pieces resemble my heart shaped stone the most. The region (Burma) also sounds right, since Thailand is in close proximity.

I think it may be. I've seen it in person at the mineral shop and it is a really beautiful stone.

Maw sit sit would be very cool to own! I love heart shapes, and this pendant is really nice!

Thank you, I wish I knew what to wear it with. I don't wear jewelry that my mom gives me (mostly green) since I don't have any clothing that matches. I tend to wear warm red/purple colors.

This is a earring and pendant set my mom gave me when I got engaged, natural emerald with visible inclusions when viewed with naked eye. I have never worn these either. Very dainty and feminine set that doesn’t fit tall and sporty me. It is definitely my mom’s style though. I would be open to any reset suggestions!

Very pretty set, @jaysonsmom ! A haloed toi et moi ring perhaps? Or haloed drop earrings and use the pendant stone for a bypass ring.

You could put them all into a pendant.

These are great suggestions! The emeralds are really small, but combine and haloed is definitely the way to go! The blue stone ring is gorgeous.

Me too!

any more info?

You can think of maw sit sit as a cousin to jadeite as it contains jadeite in its composition amongst other things. Although only pure nephrite and jadeite get to be called jade in the trade, I would think maw sit sit is very close... It is only found in Myanmar, and its properties are just as nice as nephrite imo, which is why quality maw sit sit is highly collectable too.

To make it clearer, other types of stones sold as jade like serpentine, agate and aventurine (although I like aventurine for itself) don’t get to sit at the table but imo maw sit sit does.

Looks like it could be Nephrite Jade.

It is not Mawsitsit. The over all color is to dark of green & I have yet to see a Mawsitsit with out a little bit if black spots in it, which is actually very dark green. Mawsitsit is also opaque, This stone looks like it may be translucent??? Is it?

Nephrite Jade:

Yes, this does resemble my pendant in color and graining more. No visible black spots on my pendant. When I asked my parents what the stone was called, they told me in Mandarin that it was Fei chueh, a type of Jade.

“Fei cui“ refers specifically to jadeite. Now that @fredflintstone has posted his helpful explanation, I agree this cannot be maw sit sit (I have never seen it in person). I am terrible at identifying jade types so I‘ll sit out!

Thanks for spelling of “Fei Cui” @peacechick, I never learned pingying...don’t know how to spell Chinese words with alphabet!
