It would be impossiable to give an accurate answer by looking at a fussy image on a computer moniter.
What I can see of the color reminds me of glass. I have seen moldivite and man made glass that looks that color.
Sorry I can not be of any more help.

The ocean works like a tumbler. For example, a peice of coke bottle (or perhaps a green beer bottle shard falls into the ocean.) The ocean moves around the glass over the sand. The sand smooths out the sharp edges are makes the glass look more "stone-like" It take a few years, but when it comes out.. voila! It is like the pebbles in a stream. At one time they were sharp rocks, but over time the flow of water has worn them down. The process involves an abrasive (sands, pebbles, motion) in the ocean so it does not take as long. I have found these peices of glass on the beach as well. They are cool.. but it is glass.. do you see any bubbles in it?

I think it looks like sea glass. I think it is so pretty and there are people who collect it...the glass gets smoothed and dulled from the salt and movement of the water...I have seen all colors of it.

Yep.

I used to live on the shores of lake Huron, and we''d find glass like that all the time. It''s so pretty. The thinner edge makes me suspect it is a piece from the bottom of the bottle, where the glass thins as it meets the sides.

There are no bubbles in it. Btw physically I dont know of any bottle from which this could form. I mean if its a bottle from something it shouldnt be bigger then its biggest edge right? Or for the matter it shouldnt be that bulky either. If the whole bottle got into a undersea volcano and melt there then maybe hm...

if its glass wouldnt the surface be smooth? this one is mat but it has skiny part where it looks like it was drag or slided or something.

You need a gemologist to do a few tests to know for sure.

I''m also thinking sea glass even though it looks to be a fairly thick piece. The bottoms of some wine or champaigne bottles are pretty thick, or it could be from glass used in an electrical resistor (like the type that used to be used on electrical or phone poles). The color does look like moldavite, but I think the area where moldavite is found naturally is fairly limited (Eastern Europe?)

There''s one beach in Northern California where beachcombers go specifically to look for "sea glass!":

It could be from a glass block or something larger, or as mentioned, a large wine bottle or so...those magnums of champagne are pretty bulky as well...

Well it was found on beach of Italy. Checked out moldavit well the color fits just nice and the mat transparency but all the stones I seen dont have such a smooth surface. They are more crystal like and not stone like.

Its about 25mm long and 18mm wide. I cant imagine this to be any part of bottle if it didnt melt :D

Ok Sawyer. I hope that it is what you want it to be. I would take it somewhere to be tested, it is the only way that you are going to know for sure.

Given that you found it on a beach, I would be shocked if it''s anything but glass. Sorry. It''s just got that look.

Not long ago I was shown a similar piece (also found on a beach) that someone was convinced was rare green quartz. It wasn''t.

I don''t claim to know much about either moldavite or Italy, but....

I have read that moldavite crystals can be found in the sands of rivers in Czecoslovakia. If any of those rivers empty into the Adriatic sea, and that''s where you found your stone, maybe Moldavite is a possibility.

Or, if you were near the Southern tip, glass that was somehow formed or fused through volcanic activity might be a possibility.

I''ve also seen pictures of moldavite rough that looks more like fused bubbles of glass than crystals.

But this is all speculation on my part. As others have said, you might want to check with a gemnologist to see whether they can test for moldavite.
