What Makes It Into Your Jewellery Box?

I’m curious to know how you all organise your jewellery in terms of what you consider ‘good enough’ to make it in your jewellery box.

Is your jewellery box reserved for fine jewellery, (gold, diamonds, CS) or is it a mix of everything including silver and costume jewellery? Do you keep the lot together, or have separate places they are stored? Do you even consider ‘cheap’ jewellery worth having?

Personally, I’ve always had separate boxes for my gold, silver and costume jewellery as I feel like the cheap stuff is going to take away from the others, but am now considering getting rid of a lot of the old cheap stuff that I never wear and don’t really like anymore, but I’m a bit of a jewellery hoarder, which I have a feeling a few here can relate to!

So what’s your preference; a jewellery box with only the nicest and most loved jewellery only, or a big mix of everything? I’m curious to know how you all do things! :)) Oh yeah, and photos are of course encouraged since we all like a bit of eye candy! :D

I keep my fine jewelry in separate boxes (in a safe).

(just part of my collection pictured).

I don't have much costume jewelry and those don't make it into any of my safes. Instead they are on my dresser in a pretty jewelry box. But come to think of it I should probably give them to my nieces as I cannot remember the last time I wore any of these pieces.

I have a jewelry box with my "good stuff" and that includes a few sentimental pieces. I have another jewelry box that holds my "meh" stuff and unset gemstones. And yet another one for my pearls which has become a recent addiction for me.

Yes, my good stuff is stored in their individual boxes and hidden / in the safe. As is the heirloom pieces and special occasion stuff.
My more “everyday jewelry” is “out” in one of 3 jewellery boxes. I only have a few pieces of silver jewellery, the rest is gold. My watch collection is likewise either in the safe or out.
Only 1 jewel box is actually out on display. This is my “bait box” it’s got some “good jewellery” in there is gold chains, earrings but also pieces that look very expensive but aren’t ie CZ.
My engagement ring is always on my finger. My RHR rings I rotate.

@Bron357 good idea with the bait box!

I also keep two boxes, one in plain view with things I wouldn't mind as much losing but I would still want to wear, and one that's well hidden with my favorite rings. Loose gems are kept in boxes, which I put inside purses. After I settle down in one place (i.e. get a house), I will definitely get a safe for all my most valued jewelry.

Bait box is a brilliant idea! A sacrificial lamb as it were.
When I was a kid we were robbed a few times, so I figured as a grown up I’d either have to own no more than I could wear at one time, or just carry everything with me daily!

Here’s the travel kit I got, it’s just a cheapy thing but I never leave anything at home.

I use old Tiffany’s blue flannel envelopes & drawstring bags to keep everything cushioned and separated. It’s a small case, just the same height as an iPhone and as thick as three stacked iPhones. Highly recommended. I think the Nordstrom version is nicer than the Neiman version and I wish I’d got that instead.

By the way, it’s wonderful to see all the red Cartier boxes @missy ! They are so lush!

Yep, sitting on my dresser is $300 and the “bait box” of jewellery.
Most robbers are looking to get in and get out fast and they take money and jewellery as first choice. We’ve never been robbed so my theory is untested but I figure if they can just grab some cash and jewels they’ll leave fast.

Great idea Bron. I’ve heard something like this before, where you have a cheapo ‘bait’ safe in an obvious place, with a bit of money and random paperwork, but the good stuff is actually in another, well hidden safe.

I’m actually glad to see so many of you have safes. Although me jewellery is on the insurance and very well hidden, I’ve been wanting my OH to make or buy me something more secure, but he just bangs on about how heave and awkward they are, (isn’t that the point?) Think I’m going to have to show him this post. ;)

That’s really sad that you were robbed a few times. I know someone who was also robbed repeatedly and we think it’s because of the area she lives in, (older people) or the fact that she’s obviously disabled, which is pretty sick if you ask me. Don’t think I’d be brave enough to carry everything with me, but I’ve heard of people doing it. Love your little case by the way, and hope you aren’t experiencing any more break-ins!

Thanks for the reply & photo Missy! I’m very impressed at the size of your collection (or that part of it anyway!). I think it would drive me mad trying to find something in perticular though! ;)

We were never robbed but I remember when next door was. They had a German Shepherd. The dog chased the robber in the house and the robber fleeing jumped out a glass window falling 20 feet to the back garden (sloping block) breaking his leg.
We awoke to shouting and Mr next door telling the robber not to move or he’ll send the dog out. Apparently the robber was crawling towards the fence to escape into our backyard. By this stage our huge Doberman is at the fence rather hoping said stranger does come over the fence!
The neighbors of course called the police. The police arrived and found robber with his broken leg in the garden.
Had anyone called an ambulance?
Oops.

Good thing you both had big dogs! We used to have a couple of German Shepard’s, but I think one would lick the burger and the other would hide in a corner! :rolleyes2:

@Bron357
I have yet to purchase a safe as we will be moving into our forever home sometime in the next 3 years and I'll want a huge safe that cannot be easily moved; possibly bolted to the floor or wall BUT that story is great to hear as I have THREE great Pyrenees/Anatolian mixes and I know those fur babies would do the same.
If my fiance even plays too rough with our daughter, my boy BeauBeau will start to look at him like he better calm down or back away. That dog is just in love with my girl and is attached at the hip!
Also...our poor mailman gets 3 huge loud/deep dogs barking whenever he has to come to the frontdoor, poor guy! Every time I can see him sweating a bit!
