you girls ever get hard water spots on your diamond? i live in a area where the tap water is very hard and when i clean diamonds or crystals it leaves water spots on them, how can i get rid of the spots?
Dry them with a paper towel...you won't get spots. We have hard tap water too and if I let them air dry they get spots, but when I dry them off with a paper towel, they are spotless.Date: 3/26/2005 9:13:36 PM

I''ve been toying with the idea of an ultrasonic or the Salton recently... my new stone sits deeper into my old head so there is hardly any room to clean the very bottom of the pavilion and the culet and it irritates me when my ring is dirty...I would love just a quick and dirty way to get it clean rather than soaking it for 2 hours in windex and then scrubbing. I was pretty spoiled with the super exposed pavilion and culet when I had my other diamond.
Though for now I do use windex and a brush and sometimes a hot soak in water and then windex or a mixture. Works great...but it would be nice to drop it into something and have it come out just ready!
Deny, about sapphires and chemicals, I am not sure...I know windex, ammonias, alcohols do not hurt diamonds or platinum...but other stones and metals may be fair game.
i guess there's not much you can do to avoid the water spots because once you use the restroom,oh well....Date: 3/26/2005 9:30:36 PM

Ammonia won''t hurt your diamond or platinum ring, but it will irritate your skin if you don''t rinse the ring off well with water, so make sure you do!!
