Hi everyone,

My new ring holds an approx 2.50 ct (8.7mm) transitional cut, supposedly a K. The ring was made in the fourties according to the stamp inside.

I have a couple of options as to what I should do with the ring/diamond, and would love some input and design inspiration.

I was so close to saying keep as is, but then I saw the chunky gold bezel option and hit that button hard. I think that would make that diamond sing.

I'm a sucker for Victor Canera's Emilya halo setting. That said, the ring is already gorgeous, so maybe a little refurbishment is all it needs.

Oh my what a stunner stone! I love the current setting, I think it really suites the facet pattern.

People pay big bucks to get a setting like that reproduced. Yours is in great shape and just a little wash and brush up will do her. If it were me, I'd keep.
Chunky bezel is my second.

I love the original setting. I have similar ones saved in my reset inspo file.

The setting is perfect and it’s probably original to the stone - I would keep it!

I love the cut and the setting. I’d stay original.

I vote to keep it like it is until (of if) you get bored with it. Hopefully by then you will have figured out what your wants/needs in
an engagement ring.

How is the girdle? Is it very thin and needs to be protected? If an immediate change is not required, I would live with it for a while.

Do you have any suggestions for a jeweler who is good with antiques/vintage and is affordable?

I really don’t want to sink to much money in this project, because if I keep the ring as is I’ll want a couple of bands to stack with it…so I’ll need to put some money towards that.

I’m not sure, to my eyes it looks quite thin, but I’m not a professional.

I’m naively thinking it has been worn for around 80 years, so…hopefully it’s not in an immediate danger.

+1 for keeping the current setting for now; get to know it/what you like or not about it before making any decisions about changes.
Re girdle - the current setting is 8 prong so that’s lots of protection.
Re rehab (as needed) I would recommend DK & his bench; they did a fabulous restore on an Art Deco ring I sent them that was a hot mess (mangled shank broken off of a very bent basket). You can check out the restored ring under his IG feed, it’s the diamond/ruby/platinum navette ring.

Love it as is! Clean it up a bit and add some gorgeous bands with it. The diamond holds its own!

You know I’m in love with your ring, so I vote, as is ❤️❤️❤️

I absolutely adore that ring just the way it is. As a lover of antique/vintage it is perfection in my eyes.
Simply stunning!
I may be in the minority here but I love the general patina and age related wear from antique jewellery but I can understand why others may want to give their pieces a spruce up so +1 for keeping as it is with a little touch up.

Is there a reason you think it needs some sort of refurbishment? What do you think that it needs?

I love it just the way it is :kiss2:

The ring itself is a bit out of round, I don't what that calls for. If it's fixable even.

This, refurb and keep for now. Take your time and really figure out what you want. I personally prefer more protective settings that keep the girdle safe on ALL stones.

Just ask them to reshape the shank on the mandrel. If you wanted you could retip and reshape the tab prongs at some point- but it's not necessary, they're in decent shape and the stone is well seated.

:love:It's absolutely beautiful and I'd be thrilled with it if it were mine!

Curious minds want to know… what did you decide?!?

Dish soap. Soft baby toothbrush. Then wear it. Obviously make sure prongs are secure. DK could likely make it round annd correct size. Add bands. When you get sick of current setting, after wearing it and careful consideration, then sink $$ into a new setting.
