What should I put in the invitation box?

So, I am super excited about our invitations. We are gocco printing them, and then stacking all of the pieces into a 5x7 box to send out.
The boxes I plan on ordering this week are 1.25'''' thick, so here is my dilemma...
What should I fill the bottom of the box with? It has to be light weight as to keep shipping somewhat reasonable!
The boxes are dark blue, the invites are all ivory and blue.
We have thought about lining the box with tissue like if you were opening a shirt box, but I would love some more ideas if you''ve got ''em.

Have you thought about something cute like silk rose petals? They wouldn''t be all that cheap, but they''re definitely light-weight and would be very romantic.

It is the only place I''ve found that has 5x7 instead of 5.5x7boxes, and they are less expensive than some of the others too.
I like the rose petals, right now I am searching for unscented potpourri as a possibility.
oh, and the wedding is at the ocean, but not beachy at all... if that sparks any imagination.

So, it''s official, I ordered the boxes today.
Dark blue 5x7 and 1.25 deep. I can''t wait to get them so I can start on the insides!

I wanted to bump this in hopes that someone might have another idea for filler?

I would probably use that confetti thats like zigzagging strips of papers. Its lightweight, but would fill up the box and be colorful (but not a big mess like little pieces of confetti). I tried to find a picture but couldn''t, so hopefully you know what I''m talking about.

I have two ideas!

1. jasmine flowers
2. tie the invitations with a wire ribbon and have the "bow" on top to occupy the void space.

Love the Jasmine petal idea.

We have a Aveda Salon in my fair city...when you buy a gift certificate it is actually a card...like a credit card...anyway...they place the card in a flat box (4" x 4" X 1/2") on top of a bed of potpourri petals. No scent unless you ask it to have scent. But it is a compilation of hunter green dried flowers and birch wood bark shavings and maybe a dried marigold looking flower top...sounds terrible but it is really creative, organic, and different. Your invitee recipient can use the product as a decorative touch in a small bowl or something. Of course not all would think of it...but the few that would, may look at it as a thoughtful little gift. I would rather think some were using it than it being tossed in a trash can.

So I would encourage you to also try the natural dried floral or something even the silk petals sound great...maybe with a more feminine bridal theme. Do you have a them for your wedding? Don''t bridal departments offer the petals for the ceremony...you could buy a large bag filled and use those. You could stuff a few vanilla beans in the bags and store them somewhere for a period of time to get the aroma on the petals...or the jasmine...

The birch wood shavings would look white and natural shades of whites. That would look great with your invites! You could use excelsior.

OH as GTN suggested...the wire tie thing-along the same lines, You can staple or glue two pieces of ribbon inside the box they will actually appear to come out around the invites and then you tie them together in a simple shoe tie bow. The bow should hold the invite upright no matter how it is opened.

If you do go with a box filled...you might consider a memo on the box. You may risk the issue of making a mess in someones home...when they open a filled package and don''t know which way is up.

Artificial silk flower petals will work.

Hi happy!

I just finished my invitation boxes and thought I would chime in.

I used silk leis to "fill" my boxes...they added no weight at all! I love the idea of using silk petals or some sort of dried flowers, but I remember someone on here cautioning using anything that could make a mess, especially around older people who may have a difficult time cleaning it up. I believe she said small things like dried flowers or confetti could leave a big disaster, so the flower petals could be the way to go.

If you did use dried flowers, would there be some way to use a chiffon bag or some sort of netting to contain it? That could get kind of pricey, but it could be worth it, then if what you used was scented, your recipients could use it as a sachet in a drawer...you know how I love the useful items!
