What should my next jewelry purchase be? >=)

Hi all,

I recently received my new tennis bracelet but I am already planning my next purchase!!:naughty:

I have had these three items on my wish list for quite some time now. My jewelry collection started somewhat in reverse; I have nifty pieces from indie designers but still need to build my workhorse "staple" wardrobe.

On my list are:
1 - A classic hammered gold cuff; I did a photo shoot a while back (attached) for a jewelry designer that is currently on hiatus so I am not able to purchase this piece through her but I've always wanted a classic and sturdy hand-crafted hammered cuff, especially now that I have a tennis bracelet to stack it with. I just like the idea of wearing this everywhere and with everything so that it develops a patina and tells its own story.
2 - A diamond pendant; I'm thinking about .80 ct central stone but in a DBTY style with several sizes (.20, .13, .08, .33, .05) sprinkled throughout.
3 - Diamond huggie earrings with detachable drops; I just got my pair of everyday studs this year but I would love a pair for dressier occasions and social gatherings!

What do you think?? Which one of these should I set my sights on next?

I vote for the diamond huggies. They are so easy to wear, and they go with everything.

I feel this way about earrings, too. They do seem like the effortless choice. Thank you.

Another vote for diamond huggies with detectable drop. I have a pair with fixed drops and get a lot of wear out of them. Now wanting one with detectable drops so I can change it up a bit and for ease of upgrades if I get DSS.

Another vote for diamond huggies with detachable drops.

I have a pair of small diamond huggies and a few pairs of drops such as different colour and shape pearls and a pair of paved diamond drops, and am hoping to add to the collection of drops in the near future.

They are very versatile for certain.

DK :))

I vote for pendant if you haven't already got something for your neck.

I like to have something for each body part (ears, neck, wrist, fingers etc) first then once that's done we can look at dressier items.

I think pendant if you dont have one for your neck yet (and since you just got studs).

I also love huggies (not too small though) and think they are a good item to have on your list also.

Thank you so much to all for your responses and for weighing in!! :twirl:

So I think my next target will be the huggies –

I am shooting for 1.5 ctw and am planning on purchasing a pair of loose diamonds at a later date to complete the detachable drops as I am not 100% decided on what size they'll be and whether I'd want them to be a pear, oval, or round cut.

Someone mentioned buying what I will ultimately wear more (a wise suggestion!) and knowing myself, I love how versatile earrings are and how easy they are to wear. I'm a bit fidgety when it comes to necklaces but the pendant is still on the top of my wish list as something I am passively browsing for now.

I may get the hammered cuff completed with some scrap 18kt gold but I'm not sure about the process or whether the end product will be structurally sound. I am hoping that someone who has had something made with scrap or recycled gold might be able to weigh in?

That is such a good idea to build a collection of drops! Pearl drops with diamond huggies sounds like so much fun and casually elegant.

Is it more helpful to get the most expensive piece you want out of the way first or would you rather peck away at it with the least expensive piece first?

This is a very good question and I've found myself pondering the same thing. If I am honest, I'd rather get the most expensive out of the way first.

It gives me a lot of satisfaction owning my *dream* pieces that I do not compromise on. And it hardly seems worth it to chisel away at less expensive pieces, thereby also chiseling away at the overall bling fund, when there is one that I would rather have and want more.

In this regard, it's a toss-up between the huggies with the drops and the pendant necklace, with the pendant necklace edging out the huggies as the bigger project because it would be all-custom and require the biggest rock between the two. But I like how the huggies can be broken up into a longer term project and several purchases – the huggies themselves and then customized bezel drops.

That's the way I think - pay for the more expensive item first knowing that the subsequent pieces won't be as bad. Sometimes though, the availability of diamonds will make your decision for you in terms of which to proceed with first!

Ooo I had not even thought about the availability of diamonds. Thank you for your sage advice.

These are gorgeous! I have a similar pair of earrings and they are among my favorite pieces in my collection. They are so versatile. I've worn them to black tie events with my other diamond pieces. I also wear them with jeans, paired with my Tiffany silver.

Here is an idea if you are getting the diamond drops from Whiteflash. To reduce the larger outlay in one go for the pendant diamond, you can consider using a diamond drop from the earrings to upgrade to larger diamond for the pendant later. With the other diamond drop, perhaps you can even use it to make some else like a pretty bracelet. Alternatively, you can even use both diamond in the drops for your custom pendant. Keep in mind though if you are going to bezel the drops, the bezel may be hard to remove without damaging the diamond, so this may not be an option.

This strategy might work assuming you would have accumulated a number of different little charms to wear with the huggies (those WF huggies are so nice they stand on their own beautifully anyway) and got enough wear from the diamond drops that you'll be ok to part with one set to contribute to the pendant.

So good to know! This makes me feel more confident in choosing huggies as my next piece because I was hoping to get similar wear from them. =)

This is a good idea. I was thinking of purchasing the drops through my local jeweler and I totally forgot about WF's upgrade policy, which could make this process very flexible indeed. Thank you!
