What size melee for halo? 0.7 pointers ok?

Hi,
Got some lovely help over in SMTB regarding my CADs but since I now have an actual diamond question I thought it was better to post it here.

For a bezeled and milgrained OMC center (6.8x6.1) would 0.7 pointers (1.1mm) be small or just right? The sides will be 1.5mm bezeled rounds and 2.5x1.5mm baguettes also bezeled.

When looking at photos of actual rings I would say that the size of tiffany Legacy melee (which from my calculationes should be 1 pointers) are at the max size I would like. I would actually prefer a smidge smaller. I finally was able to try some halos with different size melee and my thoughts were that I prefered the ones that were between 1 and 0.5 pointers, the 0.5 pointers felt too small.

Another question to the experts. I would love an elongated halo and the CADs are currently octagonal with both 1.2mm and 1.3mm melee. Would it be possible to put one more stone in verticaly (so it's 3 instead of 2) if I go down in size to all 1.1mm melee?
Since 8x1.2+8x1.3=20mm and (16+2)x1.1=19.8mm. Would that 0.2mm difference allow for the extra prongs and diminised circumference of the halo?
Thank you

Hi,
1.1mm stones should be just fine, slightly small but it'll work. Are you saying the surface area for the pave is 1.5mm wide? If that's the case it should be ok. Note though, the stones won't be able to go right next to the bezel wall when set since the craftsman can't work as freely with that wall going up. So on your cad, I'd have them push the stones outward more. You won't be seeing as much metal as you do in the rendering. Since the pave seems to be "bright cut", you'll see a small sliver of polished metal on the edges, which can also be miligrained if you like. 1 point rounds are about 1.3mm.

Good luck
