I found out a couple days ago that my moh has planned a Shower for June 30th :) I''m so excited and grateful that she is able to put this together for me and she even wants it to be Jack and Jill (which was my preference). However, she just emailed me to tell me it''s from 7p-1am and there will be a cash bar. I was confused at first by the timing and thought she was referring to maybe my b-rette party but, nope, that''s when the Shower is. I don''t know any other details because she wants to keep me out of the planning, which is fine....but I guess I can''t imagine a Shower being 5 hours long and needing a bar...and a cash one at that.

I''m having a conflict over what I imagined vs what she sounds like she is planning. I imagined what I consider the stereotypical kind of thing (finger foods w some sort of cocktail etc) and she''s gone and planned an all out party. A party is never a bad thing, especially when it will contain 60 of our closest friends and family, but I am a little curious as to the frequency of this kind of Shower. I must also admit that I''m not the big party-type person and my sister/moh definitely IS, so this sounds more like something in her comfort zone. When we had a conversation about Showers a couple months ago, she asked what I liked and I told her I''d love sangria and HDs or a barbecue w margaritas outside on pretty tables out in a garden or something. A nice lunch time thing perhaps. That''s. Just. Boring old me. lol. Maybe 2 or 3 hours. I even put her in contact with my FMIL because she has a nice backyard q picnic tables and she is the best cook I have ever known and she was dying to help out with something for the wedding. But, apparently, her planning took her elsewhere lol. Lastly, I really don''t care for the cash bar thing......and had she planned a lunchtime shower to begin with, she''d only have to buy the alcohol to make some pitchers of something and then guests wouldn''t have to pay for anything.

I am so totally NOT trying to come off as ungratefull.....even tho it probably sounds like that. I''m so lucky she would plan a party for 60 people!!!!! And I will show up in my best and be SO happy to let loose for the night....I promise! And after it''s over, I''ll probably sing the praises of throwing out tradition in favor of my sister''s particular brand of Shower-ing. But I guess I just wish she would''ve stuck more to what I envisioned. (And I have a sneaky suspicion that my way would''ve cost less so if money was a factor....i.e. as perhaps evident by having to have a cash bar........then she couldv''e done that).

So, to make a long story end.....anyone else out there have an evening party-like Shower in lieu of the more traditional kind that I had in mind? And if so, how was it?

i had three.
1- girls only. family mostly. shower on sunday. probably around 2 pm. finger food, bride cake, mimosas
2- couples party. friends. crawfish pasta, some appetizers, cheescake dessert, beer & wine. saturday 5-7 pm or so.
3- couples cocktail party. night before the wedding. 6-8 pm. catered appetizers and cheesecake and full bar. friends & family friends.

i have to say shower #1 was most boring. the other two were very fun! less stuffy.
after both #2 & #3 showers everyone went out on the town afterwards.

Mine was on a Friday night at the MOH''s house. I believe it started around 7pm. There were drinks and finger foods.
