What to do with old seven stone band.

I looking for ideas for what to do with the seven stone band my mom gave me a couple of years ago.

It had it re-shanked and rhodium plated to rehab it and it's in good shape structurally, but it is very uncomfortable to wear because of the design. And now that I have my Aurora band it's looking a little sad on my right hand.

The diamonds are round brilliants at eye clean VS-SI clarity and around G color but they aren't ideal cut. I won't sell it because of its sentimental value. They are between 7 to 10 points each according to the jewelers I've had look at it (haven't had it appraised because it just wasn't worth it since I assumed I'd reset it). I would assume they are 7 pointers for the sake of this thread.

I thought about having them made into earrings (something like these, only without the center bezel http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/gumuchian-fils-jewelry/earrings/11J2/ or like these http://huntcountry.com/media/images/jcdiamond/2770.jpg ) but they would be EXTREMELY similar to my existing earrings https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/kraiko-18k-and-diamond-earrings-from-pearlmans.135223/

Then I thought about DBTY necklace, but... I don't really want one. Don't want a DBTY bracelet either.

I considered just having it reset into a bezel band. But I would want more coverage, and stacking bands look horrible on me.

I also thought about having it made into a setting for a Tahitian pearl or sapphire center stone... with three melee on each side of the center in a triangle formation (and one diamond saved for a future project)-- but settings like that are pricey and I'm not sure I'd get any real wear out of the ring considering the investment. I'm really a white diamonds person... with the exception of a Tahitian pearl pendant I'm not really one to wear my non-diamond pieces at all, and they just sit there collecting dust.

So... stumped, I thought I'd see what you guys suggest... what would you do with the band (just sticking it back into the safety deposit box seems like a waste of some perfectly good diamonds).

Happy New Year and thank you for your help!

Ok, thinking a little outside the box and based on what you don't want, how about either a hair slide or a brooch? If you work in a corporate environment and wear formal clothes a lot, a little diamond brooch is practically essential yet I so rarely see one! I have often thought that I would love a diamond hair grip of some sort, or even a matching pair (if you got another little stone or two).

Just some thoughts!

Hi Gypsy!

IIRC, this is the diamond band your mom received from your dad and saved for you, despite selling all her other jewellery? With that in mind, I'd suggest keeping it as is, purely for sentimental reasons. Who knows, you might have a daughter one day, whom you'd like to gift it to?

Of course, if you aren't sentimental, perhaps a diamond pendant or circular brooch? Something for less blingy days, when you don't want to wear your fabulous BGD pendant. Although, I honestly can't see that ever happening!

more piercings!

What about using them as a halo around a colored stone pendant?

Edit: Or use them in a scattered band, Etoile style?

Piercings... lol. Yeah, that' me.

The hair pin idea is very extravagant. But it does get the ideas flowing.

I hadn't considered a bar pin. I like that idea. I like it a lot.

Etoile style band, huh? I like the idea but with metal prices where they are, I'm afraid to ask for a quote.

Yes Trekkie, that's the band! You have an amazing memory. My mom has no attachment to the setting. And I'm not likely to have a daughter. But it will go to one of my cousin's kids, when they have them.

Thanks so much for you thoughts... I'd love to hear more ideas as well. HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

Happy New Year, my dear. I hope you have a wonderful year and do something very special with these stones.

Do it! She's such a great person to work with.

She really is. I've talked to her before and have always been impressed by her.
