My cousin''s wedding is this August, and my sister and I have agreed to sing at her wedding. We used to sing duets when we were children and my cousin has fond memories of it. I know she''s busy, and she''s asked me if I have any suggestions on what we should sing. Neither her nor her fiance are very religious (the ceremony is taking place outside, not in a church).

There will be a string quartet, so we could have them accompany us or sing a capella. Any suggestions? I''m drawing blanks.

Thank you so much!

What kind of music do they like? Do you know if they both like one particular artist?

Ooh, def. have the string quartet accompany you if you can! Two people singing a cappella doesn't create a very full sound (and creates more of a chance for shifting pitch!)

Do you want a song that is already a duet, a solo song that you could arrange for two parts? The only wedding-appropriate song I can think of that was done as a duet originally is "More Than Words" (I think originally by Extreme?) and even that is more of a lead + backup piece. Unless they want something with more of a sense of humor, in which case a song like "Cruising Together" would be cute.

a lot of these really just depend on their tastes in music, so here's just everything I could think of (including the cheeseball ones)...

Solo Songs
At Last (Etta James)
Beautiful (Jennifer Paige)
Can't Help Falling in Love (Elvis Presley)
Cowboy Take Me Away (Dixie Chicks) ... if they're into country
For Once in my Life (Stevie Wonder)
Hawaiian Wedding Song (Elvis Presley)
I Can Love you Like That (All 4 One)
If You Asked Me To (Celine Dion, haha)
In My Life (The Beatles)
Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
More Than Anyone (Gavin DeGraw)
Rhapsodie (Over the Rhine)
Songbird (Eva Cassidy)
What a Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong)

Hudson_Hawk: I don''t really know what kind of music they''re into.

musey: Those are awesome suggestions! Thanks! My sis and I could probably arrange a solo piece for a duet with a little effort. I''ll forward those to my cousin and see what she thinks.

My sister and I sang at my Grandmother''s wedding.. We sang two songs- "Pie Jesu" from Andrew Lloyd Webber''s musical "Requim" which is a beautiful song and we also sang that Irish blessing song that goes "may the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back..." Also, What a Wonderful World a capella is gorgeous.

"By My Side", from the musical Godspell. "Sunrise Sunset", from the musical Fiddler on the Roof. "Love Song", from Pippin.

My best friend/MOH and her sister sang at our wedding, and it might have been my favorite part of the ceremony! We chose "Candle on the Water" from the movie Pete's Dragon, because I really loved the lyrics... not too sappy-sweet, just meaningful. We also lit our unity candle during the song... sort of keeping with the theme...

I'll be your candle on the water
My love for you will always burn
I know you're lost and drifting,
But the clouds are lifting
Don't give up, you have somewhere to turn.

I'll be your candle on the water
Till every wave is warm and bright
My soul is there beside you,
Let this candle guide you
Soon you'll see a golden stream of light

A cold and friendless tide has found you
Don't let the stormy darkness pull you down
I'll paint a ray of hope around you
Circling in the air, lighted by a prayer

I'll be your candle on the water
This flame inside of me will grow
Keep holding on, you'll make it
Here's my hand so take it
Look for me reaching out to show
As sure as rivers flow,
I'll never let you go

You guys are the best! I''ll forward these suggestions as well. Thanks!
