Any suggestions on what to wear for winter wedding party pictures outdoors???

My bridesmaids range in age of 35 to 23.

No furs or faux furs (my sister would have a cow!)

I am thinking something fairly cheap. the bridesmaid dresses will be dark red and floor length. Not sure what yet though. I am waiting for bridesmaids to send me pictures of what they like.

Also, is it wrong of me to ask bridesmaids to buy some sort of outter ware for the wedding if they are also buying their own dresses as well?

I was thinking of maybe just doing something simple by having black peacoats (most people already have these), and then I would buy each girl red ear muffs and decorate them and have red gloves or those red hand warmer thingys. I was thinking I could give them as gifts with something else as well.

Any ideas?? This is the outside of our venue and where we would take pictures...

Pashimas are your best friend. You can drape them around each girl like a blankie...but in a stylish way then they can be used in other pictures differently.

I would prefer some contrast color as apposed to attempting to match all your reds.

I was a snowflake in the annual Christmas play...(6th grade) anyhoo...they made us hand muffs or warmers or what ever those things are called out of Love Fur. You know that long nap hairy stuff. It was white and they added an applique of a snowflake pattern on the front. Also wore foot snuggies in white...(just in case you were wondering).

I am like your sister on having a cow with animal fur...but there are many alternatives that don''t actually imitate fur...that you can use. Knitted materials and woolen ones too. Take a visit to your fabric store and just take a peek. Love fur is nothing like a real animal. It looks like the hair on a troll doll. (yeah bet that is what you want for you wedding!! Troll doll hair!!)

Oh, Pashimas can be expensive...but making them is also an option so you don''t have to ask for matching coats. And yes...I think that is a tad too much to ask the girls to do..unless of course you found something like a sweater shrug or something under $30.

Oh that is an idea. Don''t know what style you are going to end up with...but you can use that love fur stuff in sort of an oblong shape...with either a button closure or ribbon tie...and it will be just a stole wrap. You can really get by easy by just making a hole in one end that the end of the other is pulled through. Hmmmm...I can see it I just can''t describe it here on this flat monitor without using my hands. I am waiving them all about...!!! But you can''t see me.

Can the outerwear be your gift to the BMs?

along with the pashmina thought... here

I would love to be able to do that. But I feel it might be a bit out of my price range. I have 6 bridesmaids, a groomsmaid, and possibly 3 "persobal attendents". So that would be 11 including one for me. I would have to wait and see where my budget goes. If I come under budget on stuff than that is an excellent idea.

Does anyone have one of these pashminas? Would it be good for a Minnesota winter (COLD COLD)?

There are similar pashminas available for much less on ebay. I am considering getting cream colored ones for my girls as I am not sure how cool the evening will get and if the restaurant will be cold.

I would look on ebay...they have several nice looking ones for under $10. For one day, you might be able to find something very suitable AND in your price range!

Hope that helps!

While pashminas are great ideas in theory, there is no way in hell they will be warm enough for more than a minute or two outside in the winter in MN. You'd have to basically get thick wool blankets to even have a chance at being warm enough to stay outside for awhile. Sorry...I think peacoats are a better idea if you expect that you guys will be out there for more than a moment.

eeerrr...I agree (I am from WI). I think it is a lot to ask your girls to buy matching coats. JMHO.

I think the outdoor photos are going to be tough even if you''re in jackets - people''s noses will be red, cheeks will be flushed, eyes will be watery from the wind (having flashbacks to Boston winters...) hair will be messing up...

BTW, Target has lots of peacoats that are less expensive than that pashmina, if you wanted to go that direction. But you''d also need matching hats, gloves, scarves....but depending on when the wedding is I''m SURE stuff will be on clearance.

Old Navy usually has peacoats as well. FYI, Target has a bunch of scarves n stuff right now in a bunch of styles and colors... both in sets or individually. They even had some sets that were $10. Old Navy usually has some as well- I know they had cream, gray and some multicolored ones.

*sends some California sunshine the Minnesocold way*
I really can not even fathom that type of cold. I was cold today and it was 70 *blush*

ETA: I noticed your ring- beautiful! If you have time to chime in on my post for 3 sided pave owners I would really appreciate it... I need info from ppl who have them so I can made my decision on whether to go that way or not.

I was thinking that a pashima would not be warm enough. As for pea coats I wouldn''t ask the girls to buy matching ones. Most people already have a black pea coat. I know I have one that one of the brides mades could borrow. Even if its not balck dark grey would work. It is going to be almost dark or even dark out. Also we could borrow from other people as well. But then I could buy the matching scarves and gloves and ear muffs (so their hair doesn''t ruin). I was also thinking it would be funny to slip on a pair of long underwear or sweat pants under our dresses. Again I think we would be outside for like 10 minutes. Who knows maybe the photographer wont want to go outside and take pictures anyway.

My idea was to go out just for a few shots after the ceremony and before the reception when they are switching the room around. My groomsmaid''s family owns a 1954 fire truck that is used every year in the St. Paul carnival. So I thought since we are not getting a limo we could take pictures with the fire truck. It is super cute.

I''d ask the girls if they have or could borrow a black pea coat. If most do, then try to borrow some for those who do not, but if most don''t, you probably won''t be able to find 10 to borrow, so you might have to come up with a new plan. If you do go the pashima route, I''d just buy the fake $10 ones, personally.

Yeah I was thinking that, Harleigh you always have great finds on ebay what is your secret. I never find anything!

neatfreak said something about wool blankets. I could make/buy cute wool blankets as the bridesmaid gifts. Someone could always use a warm blanket!

or just have each member of the bridal party take a few shots before heading out in to the cold.

Ok in all seriousness, it will be a gamble. I am from Wisconsin and still living here. perhaps you will get lucky and your wedding will land on a 50 degree day in January.. It happened alot last year! With the weather patterns and changes it is a toss up, so better to be prepared. I like the idea of some sort of wrap..

LOL FLgirl...no secret, I''m just a die-hard bargain shopper who refuses to pay full-price for anything I don''t have to! You let me know what you need, I''ll sniff it out for you!
