Hubby and I are attending a wedding at the end of the month for a good friend of mine (groom). It''s a huge 300+ guests Greek wedding (unfortunately not in Greece but in Cleveland

) and I''m starting to think perhaps I should be shopping for something to wear. I was planning on wearing a dress I got for graduation in the summer but I''m starting to have doubts because the invitation says "formal attire" and the dress although very pretty is short and somewhat casual (jersey, burgundy, spaghetti straps, a bit below the knee).

I have not been to a wedding in a while and I was wondering what kind of outfit does one wear to a wedding like that? Would a short dress be ok? Would appreciate any input!

Regalada,

Because the invitation says formal, I would personally opt for a long dress. Maybe a simple black dress you can accessorize?

A floor length gown would be my inclination too...but maybe in Cleveland "Formal Attire" doesn''t require the same kind of formality I am thinking of. Are you close at all to the bride so you coudl ask her? Or are other female friends/acquaintances of your''s going as well? If so, ask them what they plan to wear.

Thanks for your input.

I am good friends with the groom but have only met the bride once so I''m not too comfortable asking her. The handful of people I know who are attending are all male unfortunately, and I don''t know their wives or girlfriends since we are all scattered around the country. I met my friend at work a few years back and I was the only female in the group that hung out with them. So no help there.

Anyway, the reception starts at 4 PM. Does that make a difference about the formality of dress?

I was going outlet shopping for other stuff this weekend so I might as well look for a dress while I''m there.

You''re not family right? (As a family member you''re often in lots of photos, and somewhat on display.) So - I think what you''ve described will be fine. You can always dress up a simple dress with accessories and shoes. These days I don''t think you have to wear a floor length dress to be formally dressed - especially as a woman.

You''re traveling to go to this wedding right? A little jersey cocktail dress will travel well.

Personally, I''m against buying a dress I''ll never be able to wear again. I just try to use what I have.

Does the invite say black tie optional?

Scintillating...
