What was your first post?

Great topic.

Here is the first of 17,726 posts.
I sound really stoopid, and clearly 9 years here hasn't helped. :knockout: :D

Actually maybe it was more than 9 years.
Didn't a new PS replace the old PS at some point and all previous threads vanished?

First post from a first time buyer who has learned enough to be dangerous. ;)

One or two times in my life I have seen a diamond that blinded me from across the restaurant.
These were not large stones but they seemed to have built in batteries or nuclear reactors.
I want one of these magical super diamonds.
I want the best of the best.

Looks like I will be spending quite a premium for a H+A, D, FL or IF, 1 carat brilliant.
Tiffany lists 1 carat rings for 33K tops.
I figure you are paying over $10K of that 33K for the blue box.
No Thanks.

Bluenile does not list their stones as H+A.
Why not?

And their best, Signature collection, stones have AGS Certs online and also certs by another lab (GCAL Gem Certification & Appraisal Lab) which show photos.
When I look at thest top and bottom phototos I can see what lood like poor H+A patterns.
So am I right in assuming that if the stone is REALLY good it would show a good H+A pattern?
OR do they not use some special H+A set up to photograph is?

If I purchase a H+A viewer and walk into the diamond district in NY or LA will I be laughed out of the store?

I am in the USA.
Please name a few online diamond sellers which specialize in high end 1 carat stones?
I assume I just write a check for the listed price.
Nobody negotiates off one cent since the internet has resulted in competition that results in no-haggle pricing. Right or wrong?

Wow Kenny, you have come a looong way!

I looked back to my post, two pages long and DeeJay and Motown Momma are the only two posters who replied that are still posting!
After reading your first post I think all noobies should read it for the information AND to see we all started out about the same place!

Haha, my first posts were so stupid lol. I signed my posts too. Who does that? I was such a forum (and computer) newbie.
But you can certainly see I was bling obsessed way before I joined or knew about PS. I was on my 3rd ER setting already.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and am impressed by all the knowledgeable and helpful people here.
I am currently in the middle of a small dilemma and I am unsure as to what to do.

I have a shared prong platinum eternity wedding band (10 point stones all around).
My first engagment ring setting (I am now on my second and going to a third) was platinum and a solitaire in style.

BTW I am not sure if I am using the terms correctly so I apologise in advance. I really don''t know too much about this and I am trying to educate myself. Anyway, the engagment diamond was just too low in the first setting so after about 2 years we changed it based on the recommendation of my mom''s friend who is a jeweler. She insisted that 18K white gold was the way to go and I let her (foolishly, my fault 100%) pick the setting. So my second engagement ring setting (and the one I have now) is 18 K white gold with 2 begets surrounding the main stone. My diamond is a 2.93 carat G, VS2. So I have lived with this setting for about 2 years and I do not care for it. It is just not my style with the begets and all.

Now I am determined to make this 3rd setting my last one and I have been doing lots of reading and I have finally decided what I want and that is a shared prong eternity engagment ring setting in Platinum to match my wedding ring. There is 1 major problem though and sorry this post is so long. My fingers change size quite a bit as I have Raynaud''s and other issues. In the heat it can be pretty bad but my major worry is over the years that my fingers will increas in width making it impossible to resize my ring(s) which will be diamonds all around just like my wedding band.

My e ring is size 5.75 and too tight. My w ring is 6 and a bit tight but what the new jeweler determined to be my current ring size. I am concerned if I order the new e ring setting and my fingers continue this upward spiral (inevitable I am afraid based on the last few years history) I will be stuck redoing my ring(s) again. I have read about sizing beads on this forum and wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts about that. Is that a good idea, is it possible and are there any other alternatives? I was thinkin gof ordering a 6.25 full or 6.5 and putting in sizing beads (if it can even be done) and taking it from there. It is my understanding that you cannot resize an eternity band very much at all. maybe .25-.5 max if even that so I really need some ideas!

Thanks so much for reading all of this and sorry if it is a bit confusing. I am driving my poor husband mad with all of this and I really would appreciate some input. We are doing the redo of my e ring for my bday present in August and I so want it to last!

Thanks again everyone and best wishes,
Missy

PS I just love your forum it is so great! Especially all the beautiful rings that everyone has. I loved the thread where everyone showed all their rings. Breathtaking!!

Well Kenny, it took you long enough but you finally got it, Octavia. :D :appl: :cheeky:  :naughty: :sun: :Up_to_something: :o :halo: :$$): ;))

What a fun thread! My first post was under my original user name Dee Jay (no * -- I tried to change my password one time and was never able to log in after that so I had to register again as Dee*Jay). It's this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/in-a-panic-over-my-upgrade.37598/

BTW, both the diamond and the husband have been jettisoned! :cheeky:

I just discovered Pricescope a few days ago when I started looking for a new diamond. The forums are hugely informative, and I''m hoping for some advice.

After 7 fabulous years of marriage my husband suggested that I upgrade my engagement ring for Christmas this year. Now that I''ve done it I''m in a panic over whether I got a good stone and if I paid too much...

Original stone:
1.33 ct pear shape
9.59 X 6.09 X3.93
H color
VS2
64.5% depth
61% table
GIA Cert

New stone:
3.02 ct oval
11.30 X 8.09 X5.13
I color
SI 1
63 depth
53 table
GIA cert

First of all, is this a *good* oval? I have looked at the charts, and I THINK it is a good one, but would love other opinions on whether it is a well cut stone. (I am happy with the color and it is eye clean, so really looking for opinions on the numbers).

Now the $... The new stone was $23,500. I received $4,655 for a trade in of the pear, so the net difference is $18,845. Within the budget that I was prepared to spend, but still want to know what people think of the deal.

I will get to see the set ring tomorrow (the oval is being put in my original setting with .36 ct pears on each side) and I hope I did the right thing!

Dee Jay, your first post/thread was quite intelligent. Very impressive! You didn't seem as much as a newbie as some of us (me that is lol).

LOL Missy, you are giving me FAR too much credit!

And it's funny; reading that post (and the whole thread) brought back that feeling of total panic! OMG -- did I just make a hugely expensive mistake?!? Then of course I spent another small fortune upgrading THAT stone and plunking it into the Kelege setting...

Haha, I can totally relate to that panicked feeling Dee Jay trying to figure it all out in those beginning PS days. And when I think of all the pre PS mistakes I made and the $$$ it cost me, oh well. I say it's only money and these days that doesn't seem too important. Anyway, what counts is our beautiful bling now. :appl:

Here's my first:

Newbie (with pics!)

I''ve decided to de-lurk. Here are some pics of the most recent stones I have purchased. Sorry, vendor pics only as I am notoriously bad at taking gem photos! I will try to take pics when I get a better camera, but some of these stones haven''t even arrived yet... One pic per post coming up... http:...

So I was showing off from an early age....

My pics are still just as bad....

I apparently jumped right in with a thread! Who knew.

"I have been "lurking" for a month or so, but this is my first post! I am waiting for my e-ring re-mount and upgrade (I''ll post pics when I get it next week), but in the meantime, I thought I would practice my photography skills with my grandmother''s engagement ring."

I was asking for inspiration for gents necklace back in sept 2012 in the wrong forum, no less. i switched it to a different forum......

2012...so i consider myself a newbie still.

as for my necklace- It took about a year before it eventuated. Amassed a few other things along the way, though!!!! :cheeky:

I think we are all great-full for the men who have stayed! Always another perspective!

My first post and thread, Jan 11, 2006:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/question-about-cut.38517/

"I really appreciate all the great information on this site! But I need to understand a little more about cut. I get it that cut is the most important factor. However, do ALL round brilliants with an ideal cut display hearts and arrows, or is that just one special kind of cut? While I think they are beautiful (from the pictures), I certainly also think I have seen beautiful, well-cut diamonds that would not display obvious arrows. Is this possible? As a matter of fact, I do not recall ever in my life seeing a diamond with arrows visible from the top, so I am not sure that is an absolute requirement for my diamond.

I want a great diamond, but I do not plan to carry around a scope for people to view my diamond with! I read on a thread here the other day that VG is fine for polish and probably symmetry. I am willing to go to G or maybe H for color and I'd like a good VS2. This is is an upgrade from my current 1 ct. I'd like to go to 1.5 if possible.

Thanks for your help!"

John Pollard (aka John Quixote at the time) replied and so did belle who hasn't been around in a very long time.

Interesting to me, On Jan. 22, 2006 I posted two threads about Beaudry rings. I stayed faithful to my first love in settings when I was finally able to buy some when Pearlman's discontinued the line!

I was one of the gals whose first post was in the LIW section.

"Hi fellow sufferers of LIW-itis :p

I've been a lurker here for 1 year+, so I'm finally making my first official post after finally opening an account last month to view the Preloved section (I'm sure PS has appreciated a sudden exponential increase in registered users in the last month lol).

I originally found PS after we got scammed through an eBay purchase whilst purchasing my first mini "bauble" (i guess it'd be similar to a "promise ring", but I hesitate to call it that since it reminds me of grade school). We purchased a 1.02 carat, F radiant that was clarity enhanced to a SI1... Took it to a local B&M jeweler to confirm the specs, and viola! It's a piece of junk.. It wasn't even a warm yellow tint, it was a murky brownish tint with carbon spots and bubbles all in it.. The jeweler was shocked they even wasted their time clarity enhancing it.. Thank GOD for PayPal protection.. So we instead got a GIA cert'ed, much smaller, but less.. "rock".. stone :)

Anyway, I've learned ALOT about diamonds in the last year of obsessing and pressing F5 on the "Show Me the Bling" side, hoping for more blingasms.. I think I have a problem ;) but there's a never ending education provided here!! And I feel I can never learn enough :p

So, enough history, onto "us". We've been an "us" for almost 2 years now. We're both relatively young (in our mid 20's). HE was the one to actually bring up the whole marriage/future talk.. So I guess I got saved from that burden. He wants me to wait until I'm done with school, though, before he proposes, and he won't clarify if that's when I'm done with which level of schooling >:O. I feel crazy, asking him what feels like daily!

So I'm hoping to get to know a few of you ladies, and vent with you all :) and hope that this upcoming holiday season brings plenty of LIW sign-offs <3. My stay is anticipated to be "longer", so I'd like to see how many spots I move ;)
"

My "stay" ended up being about two years, and Jesus H. Christ, I went from having that one radiant to having a whole damned collection. WHAT DID YOU PSERS DO TO ME?!?! :errrr:  I drank the cool aid, dammit.

I just signed up here today, but was delighted to see when I did that my friend SteveL was on line. It made me feel right at home. (Hi, Steve!)

My question is whether it is acceptable or off-topic here to discuss colored gemstones. I did a search on the word, "ruby" and came up with this thread (among others) which suggested to me that colored gemstones might be off-topic.

I am interested in colored stones, particularly red stones, and I do not want to err by discussing them here if that is not acceptable.

Thank you! BTW: Hi, Lawmax!

In LIW:

"I've been dating my guy for about 2 and a half years and I'm not expecting a ring anytime soon (although he did just get a promotion at work :) What's driving me crazy is that all our friends who have dated for less than we have are getting engaged and married. I think half of my graduating high school class is married and having kids(and I come from a class of 450!!!) I know I shouldn't be comparing us to other couples but sometimes I can't help it! I have a promise ring but it's not really the same. Anyone have any tips for helping you stay happy for other couples but not going insane in your head??"

What an idiot I was! He ended up dumping me and a month later I met my now husband, 6 months later was engaged, and a year later from that married. Whew!
