What would an EGL si3 be if it were graded by GIA I1 or I2?

I'm considering buying a diamond that is EGL si3, when I looked at it from a distance it looks eyeclean because of the incredible cut it has, but when I closely look at the diamond I do see a couple feathers. What would this si3 be to a GIA grading? An I1 or I2? Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately it's not a one to one relationship - we can't match up EGL grades with none or one or two GIA grades higher - all we can say is GIA/AGS would probably give a lower colour & clarity grade.

Since GIA does not have an SI3, it will most likely be an I2.

Most likely an SI3 is a GIA I1. However, a particular diamond could be SI2, I1 or I2 at GIA with an EGL SI3 grade. Just like you are unsure of the clarity grade GIA would give, how have you learned that the cut quality is "incredible"? You may be making some incorrect assumptions on that grading aspect, as well.

Hard to say. I just got a fancy yellow trilliant EGL SI3 off ebay and looked at it under the microscope at a jeweler's. I was expecting a big sloppy mess of inclusions but it wasn't nearly as scary as I was expecting.

yeah your right I really don't know if the cut is great, I just asked the whole saler and he stated to me it was a very good cut. Aslo in regard to another user who perchased an si3 on ebay, wow!! Your brave, I actually purchased two diamonds off of ebay it was a disaster, one was clarity enhanced and the the other was a mess, both cases I had to file a claim. I'm glad everything went smooth for you.

Is a GIA report important to you? Is the actualy clarity/color grade important to you? Honestly, everyone has their ideas of what they would and would not buy.. (same would never buy below VS2 or E color, etc) My advice- if you love the stone and have compared it to other stones with a higher grading and love it- and have seen it in all lighting situations, like store lighting- outside lighting- etc- and still LOVE it, does the name of the grade matter to you?

I think that the grading really matters in pricing.... know it may be a grade or two lower in color and clarity than stated, and then do a price comparison with GIA stones in those grades to help you understand the pricing parameters. If you love the stone then by all means purchase it- but educate yourself on the grading differences and the pricing so as to not overpay for a stone that is priced too high because of a misleading grading.

Big grain of salt my friend ;)) Do you have the specs from the lab report? It can help a little to assess cut knowing those.

What is the price and other specs of this diamond? It should be pretty inexpensive for ct weight with those specs and cert.

I don't right now, sorry. The diamond was roughly 7000

Well, I think the key is to know more facts about the stone/cert. That is the only way to find comparable prices to know if it is worth the money.

Yes I know your right. In a couple weeks when I have that info I will do another post. Sorry I don't have that info I should have been more prepared. Thanks for all the replies everyone. I truly appreciate it.

Right, without this I don't think anyone will be able to give further valuable advice. What carat weight is this stone?

Just want to say I hate this stupid SI3 grade. Mean nothing IMO!
