I have never loved my Van Clef diamond band that my husband bought me as an engagement ring. It’s beautiful, but I feel like it’s never sat right on my extremely long hands. Fast forward a series of disasters - Covid preventing us from having a wedding ceremony, our first baby diagnosed with and now fighting cancer, and myself recovering from brain surgery after discovery of a massive tumour, my husband has said let’s finally get a piece of jewellery that I love. I’m not sure if it’s my broken brain, or exhaustion from my sick baby, but I don’t know where to start. Any ring ideas for this awkwardly long hand? I open to any metal and any stones. Thank you for your advice.IMG_1698.jpeg

I’m sorry for such a terrible year! I do hope baby will be ok and your tumor is finished. I could see a lovely oval solitaire or elongated cushion with your beautiful ring. A three stone emerald?

I'm so sorry for everything that's happened to you. I hope that your baby is okay and that you'll be remission yourself. I can totally understand why you wouldn't know where to start. I hope that you get some joy looking at jewellery.

I think for your long and elegant fingers, an emerald cut diamond would be perfection.

Your hands are beautiful. Do you want an engagement ring to wear with your band or something for another finger ? Do you have a budget in mind ?

Oh gosh - after reading your thread about the proposal
I think you two together should spend some time trying on many styles at many places. Spaced out apart and paired with a fun lunch or something.
Whether standalone or paired with this band.
Then make your decisions of what makes your heart sing.

I don’t feel like whatever random suggestions I throw in here will help with real satisfaction for you.

Best wishes in everything.

I’m so sorry for all you have endured! I also read the other thread- you deserve to have a jewelry that you love. Your hands are beautiful (many would kill for them!) so you can wear just about anything imho! What type of jewelry do you like?

First, sending love and strength to your little family. Life can be so random and inexplicable. *sigh*

But as many have said, most of us would love to have hands like yours. With your long fingers, the band feels horizontal and chunky. Something delicate with height/verticality/length would match your delicate elongated line. A solitaire or a solitaire flanked by delicate side stones would be lovely.

I also echo what @Rfisher said - if you have the time (and the mental bandwidth), try some on in person. There’s nothing like putting on a ring and feeling your heart sing … well, maybe it’s like trying on The Wedding Dress. After combing they Internet, I thought I wanted yellow gold and x-y-z for my solitaire. But when the jeweler showed me a white gold setting with a-b-c, I teared up and my heart went pitter patter.

You could also order some CZ’s off Amazon and try them on.

Here’s to happy futures with everything you desire. Your little family deserve a big helping of blessings by now.

Wishing you and your baby complete recoveries. You've been through a lot. So I agree, going out and about trying on multiple styles should give you some diversion. That said, I think an elongated Emerald cut three or five stone with some step cut shape for the sides would be beautiful. You have lovely hands and most people would be thrilled to have such long beautiful fingers.

These styles on long fingers are TDF in my opinion!

PS. I like the idea of buying a bunch of cheap CZ styles from amazon and then deciding which style/shape you like. IMHO folks like stuff in pics and on other people but often like something else on them. I was SURE I wanted a pear engagement ring until I tried them on and realized that *on me* I didn't love the shape for an e-ring.

Wishing you and your family a better year after what you had been through!

When I saw the pic of your hand, my first thought was a skinner emerald cut (EC) stone as a solitaire.

Then perhaps a 3-stone with a skinny EC with either step cut traps or baguettes as side stones, or a 5-stone skinny EC with baguettes.

It should be noted that I love ECs myself, so I am kind of bias towards ECs.

Good luck in your search.

DK :))

HI:

Much healing success to you and yours. I agree with you that your ring is beautiful and I also understand that you want something else. You've been patient! It is time!

Your hands are gorgeous and you could wear anything. I like the idea of ordering different shapes/designs online so get context. A pear? Marquise? Oval? Decisions!!

cheers--Sharon

@Secretdiamondlover sorry to hear about your horrible year, wishing you and your family all the best ❤️

Regarding the VCA ring - instead of finding something to stack with it, can you wear it on another finger / on your right hand instead? That way, you won’t be limited to options that match the Estelle, and I think it’d make a gorgeous right hand ring.

What a tough couple of years you've been through! Lots of love and prayers to you! It's really amazing to see you with a positive outlook and looking forward to the future/ a reason to celebrate. What better way to do that than with new bling? I echo other comments which said the same- i think your ring and hands are absolutely beautiful (but I totally understand everyone has their own perception). I also think you should spend some time trying on different styles to see what you like best. You might be surprised on what your drawn to and it'll make you more confident in your purchase. Looking forward to seeing where this journey leads and hoping for many joyous years of wearing your new bling ahead!

@Secretdiamondlover : I'm so sorry for all the suffering you're going through; sending you hugs and prayers.
I totally agree with the other PSers: anything would look beautiful on your elegant hand... I would get a timeless round solitaire: classic and classy, it can be stacked with multiple bands to create many different looks.
Let the smart fellow PSers help you finding the ring of your dreams!!!

I'm so sorry for all your difficulties @Secretdiamondlover . I hope you and your baby are both on the mend.

You have such lovely long fingers that you could wear about anything...only limited by your "likes" and budget (dang it)!

A classic round would be beautiful but depending on your budget an oval may give you a little more finger coverage.

Can you share your budget? Have you tried on different shapes? Do you know what you like and dont like as far as shapes?

What a few years you’ve had! Wishing the best for you and your baby.

Your hand is beautiful. With your long fingers, I’d stack other bands with your wedding band. A plain platinum band plus one or two colored stone bands…you could do it slowly over time or all at once of your budget allows it. I’m picturing a band of solid blue sapphires or rubies in French cuts to add interest and a different shape than your current band. Then you could have fun mixing and matching.

This!!

And wear the current ring on another hand so you have freedom with picking the new ring.
