hands down.

The Starbucks symbol!!

I thought it was Mickey Mouse for Disney.

There are tons of people that dont care about brands and don''t notice...my mom didn''t know what LV was until I got her a bag for a present. She just doesnt care even if she''s surrounded by it....and world-wide there are lots of places where luxury brands arent really sold due to money, show them a picture of mickey mouse and i''m sure they recognize it though.

Yes Mickey mouse, I didn''t think of that!!!!

Coke gets my vote, too!

somewhere or another I read a list of the most valuable trademarks in the world.
coke was first
mcdonalds second

I dont rememeber the mouse being in the top 10.

I''d go with McDonald''s or Coke or maybe Nike.

NOT LV or the Rolex crown or Cartier.
I don''t know if I recognize those and I''m here all the time!

I don''t even know what the symbol for Cartier looks like???

I read a little bit ago that the McDonald''s golden arches were more recognizable than Santa Claus to children under a certain age (of course I forget the age and where I read this). This was not the United States alone, but included many other countries.

it looks similar to the Chanel logo but, narrower and taller.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Prudential's "The Rock"--two of the top 10 most recognizabl brands in US history according to Ad Age.

As for me personally and luxury brand recognition, Mercedes Benz. My parents always had Mercedes, so I was exposed from birth.

how about the RED CROSS symbol?

Definitely Coke!!!!!

HI:

1) The/A Red Cross.
2) Stop and yield signs if you think they count.

cheers--Sharon

Here is the BCBS logo. BCBS, in their original forms, represents the first true health insurance offered in America. Their brand recogition is most prevalent in the US but there is a fair amount of recognition worldwide.

Cartier logo on my valise. I wouldn''t think this as recognizable as the "Must de Cartier". And, globably - not very recognizable.

As far as emblem - my vote is $ (as Leonid mentioned) & our Flag (as Matatora mentioned). Sounds ethnocentric - but with some truth.

I wouldn''t have known anything about BCBS if I didn''t live in the US now - I think it depends on your region here and is little known outside North America. Sorry!

Since we are talking emblems and not trademarks per se I will throw in something controversial and say sadly a swastika is highly recognised although perhaps not as much with the young of now.

On a lighter note the Olympic emblem is worldwide and easily recognised as is the peace symbol. Of all the ones mentioned so far I would say the red cross is universal so recognised throughout most of the world.

That''s not what the research I''ve read in the trades has said, but perhaps this is a point for not always taking statistics too seriously. As for being "sorry," no worries; I really could care less/was just reporting some factoids I had seen that pertained to the discussion here.

Also, it just hit me now but emblem (symbol) vs. logo vs. brand are three different things. This thread is kind of all over the place.

I thought this thread was about corporate logos. In which case the coke logo, or the golden arches of McDonalds applies. The dollar sign is very recognizeable but has no corporate affiliation. So lets define what we are talking about and can go from there.

This is a fun thread!!!!

i agree with golden arches and the american flag (if you cant find the first yet.. im sure the latter is just getting there)

emblem - a visual symbol of a thing, idea, class of people, etc.

Emblems cover a broad range.

Another - Cross = Christianity
