What you think of this 5ct Emerald cut??

I have my opinion, but I'm not an EC expert, so will wait until others chime in. @Karl_K, what do your eyes tell you?

look at what happens at about 15 degrees tilt.
Nearly entire side goes dark at once so its not going to dance well.
Not at computer to check material.

I would not buy that diamond.

For what reason wouldn’t you buy?

Too many facets right next to each other that go gray/off or window as it rotates.
The light should ripple across the facets, not stick off as it rotates. Tough to find good ones in these huge sizes.

@Karl_K, do you mean how the left goes mostly dark at once? Or the hazy way the right goes dark? Asking for eye-training purposes. Thanks as always for chiming in!

And yes - there's a bit of graining on the right in other images.

Both are the same problem

Agree with all above: hard pass.
Imagine a wide staircase that lights up every time you step on it.
When you step up, each step lights up under your feet. When you step off of one, and step up onto the next, one goes off, the next goes on.
Emerald Cut diamonds are designed to perform with light reflection in the same way. The reflection of the opposite side of step-cut facets create the “dance” @Karl_K is referring to. If a group of steps flash at the same time or go dark at the same time, it will be a dull stone.
You want consistent Off and on flash across the stone. The “dance” reveals the life of the diamond.
