What's the trick to making larger diamond studs not hang?

I'm thinking about getting 2ctw diamond earrings. I've been wearing fakes to see how they would look in my ears and they hang down instead of face up. What's the trick to having the extra weight not drag the stones down?

Sometimes you can get larger earring backs, and they'll "support" your earlobes a bit better and keep your diamonds facing out instead of downward.

Larger earrings backs and pushing them a bit tighter. I have this issue with pearls that are larger than 9mm and with my diamond studs. I once showed my FI the difference between the large "softee" backs and the regular ones and he said he could definitely tell a difference.

They look kinda like this:

Ahh! Yes, softie backs. Der. That makes sense. I thought it was something about how they're set. Thank you, PS friends.

I use these will all my stud earrings. I have thin earlobes and all my earrings drop forward. This is a stabilizer disk that goes on the back of your ear before you put on the earring back. Works like a charm. Hope that helps! :wavey:

:appl: Can't wait to see what you get!

If I can further enable you, the 8-prongs look really gorgeous on the ear and don't sit in the ear. The back part does not come to a point, therefore I think it helps hold the earring up even more since there is more metal to hold the ear in place instead of it drooping.. if that makes sense??? :sun:

OOooooo sounds nice!

Yeah, I'm sorta in love with the 8 prongs so I'll probably go that route. We'll see. Right now it's all pipe dreams.

Ditto to the comments above!

My earrings are fairly heavy and I used to use the plastic discs until I got to my 150th pair (I kept losing them!) and decided to switch to extra-large earring backs instead. Solved my problem, and I have never had droopy earrings again!

The concept of the plastic disc in a good one, but the reality on my small ears is that they poke out the bottom of my ear. I too have found large metal backs that work for me.

bean - can you tell me where you got these? I did a google search and I'm not coming up w/ anything..

I have the plastic discs but all my earrings have super-short posts - I wanna try these oversized soft backs!

ETA: never mind, a search for earnuts instead of earring backs does the trick

Artbeads.com has a ton of different earring backs, that's where I get mine; I usually buy a bunch of them to keep on hand from them.

The plastic ones can make your ears unhappy though, at least mine. So the large metal ones are good for me. The plastic ones show a smidge on small earlobes too, like mine.

Thanks LGK!
Hmm. I think I'll splurge for the metal, the plastic ones look like they might have trouble fitting on shorter posts with earring jackets as well..
