Hello shoppers!
35.gif

So DH and I have a round the world trip coming up with a stop in London and a couple of stops in the US.

We are heading into winter here in Oz, so I was hoping to increase the winter wardrobe a bit. It doesn''t get super cold here-about 50F is the lowest.

What are your ''must have'' pieces this winter?

TIA!

I got this from Nordstrom and LOVE it. I''m in Los Angeles, so most days this is more than adequate for our cold days. It''s lined so fairly warm but not bulky... dresses up or down. It''s my favorite jacket EVER! (or at least as much as that purple jacket with embroidered trim and white furry hood that I got when I was 2!).

Thanks Sera, that''s lovely! Loooove the belted jacket, so versatile. The fabric looks lush!

Any more? I''m feeling the need for a wardrobe overhaul so don''t be shy! Shoes, bags, coats, jeans-we''re all go!

First of all, SERA, I''m pissed that you got that Nordie''s jacket..I sent it to my mom and she was about to buy it and found it was already sold out!!! LOL!

Anyway...I''m not bitter, I promise.

gemma, for a nice elegant coat with some warmth...I would grab up a J.Crew double cloth lady day coat or similar from the J.Crew website. All of their coats are on sale right now...I have an ivory LDC with thinsulate and just received a bright poppy Sybil coat with thinsulate for Christmas from my parents and absolutely love them both. I would buy ten more in different colors if I could, they''re very versatile and honestly they''re warm enough to do chicago or Australia. You will not be disappointed. Seriously versatile outerwear.

Get some wellies...for the muckiness of your trip...they are easily cleanable in a hotel shower and I think very useful year round.

Good scarf, long enough to wrap around your head and neck, and pretty enough to fashionably wrap round just your neck and accessorize your coat while walking into a restaurant...and some open toed shoes that are cute, even though there cold weather abounds. Sometimes you just have to suck it up for fashions'' sake and look cute, right?! LOL!

Other must haves: a great black turtleneck sweater, a great pair of trouser jeans in a dark rinse, a great pair of black high heeled boots, and a great denim mini. A few assorted sparkly tops, and really that''s it!

Thanks Monarch!

I just checked the J Crew website and it is sold out

but I do have something similar which will work. The scarf is a great idea-I got a beautiful red pashmina for Christmas which of course I haven''t been able to use.

I''m wondering what I should pick up when I''m over there too-skinny jeans and stovepipe pants just don''t work for me, so I''m hoping there will be some more styles to chose from! Bring back the bootleg, I say! I''d love a couple of wrap dresses for work as well-they are soooo versatile.

Thanks for the suggestions-oh, and the wellies are already packed! I do plan to do a lot of walking in the UK!

Gemma, if you can find any wrap dress from Diane Von Furstenberg grab it!!! I love wrap dresses but always have a tough time finding the right ones since I''m long-waisted and need one that hits me in the right spot as far as the waist is concerned. Anyway, I digress. DVF wrap dresses are a quintessential wardrobe piece and if you can find one go for it!

My must-have for every winter is a new cashmere scarf. Right now you should be able to find one on sale. It is colder here and gets down into the 30s, so I''m not sure if 55 is cold enough for cashmere, but a lighter fabric may be perfect.

My must have for winter is a pair of Ugg boots. I just love them!

Thanks everyone!

Butterfly17, do you wear the Uggs over jeans? What about with skirts? I am worried that they would make my calves look chunky

Thanks MC! I''m really looking forward to wearing scarves again-I bought a cashmere one and was given a pashmina over the summer so I can''t wait to hit the UK and wear them!

Monarch, I loooove DvF-I have a print one that I wear all the time! I''m hoping I can pick up a black one and another print at least! Just curious-how do you know if you have a long waist??

I wear them with jeans. They are very casual, so I don't know if they would like right with skirts, but once you own a pair, you will always want to wear them.

About the calves looking chunky, they are chunky boots, but that's because they are more for comfort than for style. They do come in a few different styles, but in general, they will still be chunkier than other boots.

But honestly, when the weather is really cold, all I care about is comfort, so they work well for me!

Plus, I think most people consider Uggs to be in style anyway.

Hands down, my Eileen Fisher "sweater" coat...it''s the right length, shape, light and super comfie.

Basically you know that you''re long-waisted when you can''t wear a regular size one-piece swimsuit (too short), or when the belt part of a wrap dress hits you right around the lower ribs instead of at your natural waist, etc. I have to buy long-torso one piece swimwear or wear two-pieces, and wrap dresses are really hard to fit for me...some brands seem longer-waisted than others. My wedding gown had an empire waist...anything strapless I tried on was too short-waisted and didn''t quite look right. I''m also 5''10", so I have lots of issues with finding things long enough in every respect. I usually order tall sizes in coats or button-down shirts for proper sleeve and torso length.

Thanks butterfly and MC! I''m thinking I will have to get a pair and any one who thinks ''gee, that girl''s calves are chunky'' will just have to build a bridge and get over it! They do look cool with jeans....

MMM, I really want one of them-they look great! Thanks!

Monarch, thanks for ''splaining!

I have 2 pairs of wool lined dress pants from Banana Republic in the Jackson fit. I got one pair for Christmas and loved them so much I got a 2nd pair at the after Christmas sale. These are my favorite pants I''ve ever owned! I hadn''t seen the Jackson fit before, so I''m guessing it''s new, but they fit me really well (even better than the Martin).

I don't think Uggs are out of style,I have the chocolate ones and I love them. You can wear Uggs with a skirt, but it just takes a certain kind of person to pull that off.

Other than that, a good cashmere scarf and a couple of sweaters are always good to have.

Thanks krispi and PQ09!

I agree PQ re the Ugh/skirt combo and not sure I''m that person.

I''m planning to stock up on work clothes whilst I''m OS too-thanks for the Banana Republic suggestion!

Thanks everyone!

Gemma, it''s no problem whatsoever. I just hope you can find some on sale! Otherwise, they can be very expensive. (But still very warm and comfy!)

As someone that used to work for the Gap, I have to say there is kind of an art to shopping at Banana Republic. I don''t actively seek out sales (cause I can''t go to the mall all the time, LOL) but I think that''s a key to shopping at BR. I tend to go there for my work/school clothes. I love that they have separates. I have to insert a disclaimer; I''m a guy, so sale shopping is always easier for guys. Plus, I wear a small size and it''s ALWAYS there.
