I''M SO HAPPY!!!! WE''RE ENGAGED!!!!
Guess I needed that manicure after all!
So he comes over after work with to-go Olive Garden. We first met at Olive Garden so it''s always been our favorite romantic restaurant. (yes, he lucked out with that one). I have the table set up with my nicest china and candles, the full bit. I really truly did not expect him to propose last night! He waited until we had salad (smart boy), and then asked if I wanted to open my birthday present. Of course I said yes since he was practically jiggling in his seat. He told me to close my eyes and went off and rummaged in his bag. (sneak, it was in his pocket the whole time!). When he sat back down, he told me to keep my eyes closed and I felt these bits of light across my eyelids.
When I opened my eyes there was a open black box with a diamond ring inside of it on his plate. As my jaw dropped, he looked at me with a gleam in his eyes and asked ''will you marry me?''. So of course I start shrieking ''YES!'' and I jumped up and flung myself around his neck and started kissing his face all over! I was so excited that it took several minutes of hugging, kissing, bouncing, and giggling before I even took a closer look at the ring!
It''s GORGEOUS!! And even on my puffy size 7 finger the diamond looks huge! Thank God it fit even with my finger still swollen and sore, although it may not come back off again.
For all those guys out there who worry that it won''t be a surprise, even though I knew it was soon and even suspected it might possibly happen on my birthday, and even though the ring is one of the approved options I sent him, I was still totally shocked and surprised!
I just simply could not believe it was truly happening, that it was real until I saw that ring. I''m so glad he waited until he had it to propose! What also helped the surprise is that I''ve been totally lurking on antiqueengagementrings.com and this ring is still marked as available. I had been slighlty dissapointed that none of the real antique rings had been sold, since in my heart of hearts I wanted an original antique not a replica.
Ok on to what you really want to know!
here are the stats:
Platinum ring from the 1930''s
.57 carat Old European Cut
5.30 x 5.35 x 3.21
Si1 clarity
I color
with 4 channel set diamonds on the shoulders. My favorite style for accent diamonds!
To my eyes the diamond looks super bright and white. I''m so glad we went for an OEC not a modern brilliant cut since the diamond looks totally bright in all light including the ambient light on a rainy day. I always thought modern cuts look a bit grey under all the sparkle. It''s super sparkly and I can''t keep my eyes off of it! Even with my finger the way it is, the ring is so comfortable that I kept checking to see if it was still there!
He did good!!!
