Ive been trying to finish up registering for our wedding, and i was wondering how much is too much. Not so much in terms of price, but how many items on a registry or how many stores you are registered at.

This is what i have...
3 department stores - All 3 have the same items on the registry, i was just trying to pick stores near where everyone was
26 items at William-Sonoma
21 items at Crate & Barrel
5 items at Pfaltzgraff website (expanding the everyday pattern we already have)

On every registry above, ive made sure to have a range of prices. Also the items numbers dont reflect if i asked for more than one of an item. We are expecting 250-275 poeple at the wedding. There will also be 3 showers of about 25 people, with 3 different sets of guests at each one.

I have read where its okay to have more than one store and that it doesnt appear greedy, you are just trying to give your guests a variety of items to choose. Do you agree that it is okay? Do you think i am being greedy? Please be honest (cause thats why i love you guys)!

It''s your wedding. Register wherever you want!
I don''t think you should have to put a limit to it.
You like different things from different places. There is nothing wrong with that!
Have fun and good luck getting all your goodies!

I think it''s fine. I''m registered at 4 stores right now, but am thinking of adding one more. The only suggestion I have is not registering for the same items at different stores. What I would do is register for some items at each of the stores, rather than all the items at all the stores. But, that''s just my opinion!

If you register for the same items at all the department stores, don''t you risk getting 3 of each and having to return them all? For me, that''d be a huge hassle and something I''d definitely want to avoid!

I don''t think this is too much..Its definitely okay to have more than one store. and with three showers, and 275 guests, you''ll need a lot of items.

but the only thing that sounds like trouble is "3 department stores- all three have the same items on the regisrty".. The point of registry is so you don''t get the same thing a zillion times! you shouldn''t register for the same thing at more than one store.. unless its a setup where they are 3 dept. stores owned by the same company and the registries are cross-referenced..

One thing I might suggest is a lower-end store like a Target, or Linens and Things. I personally like to shop at that sort of store.. Not because I''m cheap.. I just buy MORE!!

I don''t think the multiple stores means that you are greedy...it just gives the guests variety. Just make sure that you have plenty of $20 to $30 gifts for things like parties the people at your work might have.

Also, if you use Linen''s N Things like someone suggested, they have a lot of things online that are not in the store... which was kind of annoying for people that went in the store looking for my gift. Also, the online store doesn''t have many cheaper items. I found that going in the store and scanning things with the scan gun worked much better.

Also, sometimes people will go in together to get you one of your more expensive items, so it''s not bad to have expensive items on your registry either.

They had a shower for me at work, and I found that co-workers like to spend about $20 on a gift.

Our friends spent about $50 to $75 each on gifts.

Our family members varied greatly - from $50 up to $1,000.

Some people like to purchase one big gift for you... some people like to purchase many smaller gifts for you.

My advice is to put whatever you want on your gift registry in all different price ranges. The more, the better, as long as it is something you want.

You can always check your registry after each of your showers and add things if you need to.

Thanks so much ladies! Glad to know i dont look greedy, cause i certainly dont feel like it nor do i want to be!

I guess i wasnt real clear about the department stores -- the only thing that is really a duplicate is the china, flatware and stemware. I asked for 6 settings at each store with the hope that i will end up with a total of at least 12. Same towels, but different colors at each store, sheets are different colors, etc. Most of my family is older and would never buy anything off the internet, so there is really only one store they would shop at. FIs family really only has one store that is close to them and its a different one. And the 3rd store is for family in Florida. So, there really arent any items that will accidently get duplicated.

windy - your breakdown is helpful, and about what ive been thinking people will do... thanks!

njc- i haven''t registered yet, but it seems to me the standard/average # of stores is around 3, I think anything more than 5 is a lot, unless you have a lot of specialty registries. And I don''t think you''ve registered for too many items... sounds like you have a lot of guests, so I wouldn''t worry about it. Also, you may want to periodically check the registries, and if they seem to be really low(ie all your gifts are fulfilled) you should register for more stuff.

If you want to register for other places, Bed Bath & Beyond has a cash back return policy, which I like! I have also heard that Target is a bad place to register because their stock/items change to quickly from season to season that many of the items you register for in teh store get discontinued or are out of stock, or can''t be found in-store.

njc -- I read somewhere that ten was too many. And you''re nowhere near there and you have a lot of guests! So, I think you''re fine! HTH!
