When you tell yourself you already have too many rings…

Does it work to dissuade you from a new purchase?
Yesterday I passed up 2 rings and one pendant that I would have been happy to own. But I kept reminding myself that I have too many. That I would be just as happy shopping in my vault. Sigh. But today I woke up thinking about them and found myself enjoying the pics I took. And obsessing over one of them. So I rationalized that if I am only obsessing over one item, then I must really need it? Bc clearly I could live without the other two?
And just bc pics are fun, I will post those too.
Obsessing over the Bev K sapphire. I know melee and quality is not ideal, but still love it.
The pendant is gorgeous but I realize that I already have one antique diamond pendant that I reach for for similar occasions.
Finally, the pink ruby eternity band. I think @YadaYadaYada and her pink bands have influenced me, lol. But I do know that I do not reach for colored bands all that much.

Now, YES. I have lots of rings that I never wear, beautiful things but these days I stick to my staples of Bella L/H and Marilyn R/H.

HI:

Yes, it does. I don't wear half of what I have. I still love to window shop tho.....

cheers--Sharon

Glad I could be of influence lol! These are all beautiful pieces, yes dying over the ruby band, it looks so pretty with your big diamond solitaire.

I am trying to remind myself before I buy something that it will not make me happier, will not be the “be all end all“ and the novelty will wear off quickly. It’s hard but you know, I’m wearing a lot of pieces that I had for sale or was considering selling lately and I have a new appreciation for them.

So for right now, it is working. Also you know I’m a ring girl, love rings, give me all of them. However, lately when I see something tempting I have the following thoughts:

No, you don’t need that.

It will not make you happier than you are now.

You have many beautiful rings already.

No. 50+ rings and still going...

My story is that I don't have jewellery, I have a wearable rock collection. And one can always collect another one... I set my 'rocks' into rings the better to admire them. I make a point of rotating them.

But it does make me a bit more discriminating. I do regret buying so many 'inexpensive' stones, and now try to wait for the pricier things I really want.

As of now I own a grand total of three precious stone rings so… no. It does not dissuade me at all. I tried for a bit after I got the third one (attempted the minimalist approach) and it didn’t work.

Nope, and the phrase "I have too many rings" does not apply in my house!

DK :lol-2:

I really like the sapphire ring you posted. :) To answer your question - yes it does dissuade me. Things changed for me the last few years and now I only buy what I know I will wear.

I only have what I wear. I don’t want to make decisions about jewelry every day - lol! I put good money into what I love and I am happy with it. I do have multiple bracelets but that is about it. Looking into a jewelry box with lots of pieces would give me anxiety! I just stick with my signature pieces and always enjoy wearing them. I love to look at all of the beautiful pictures here on PS though and seldom wander into a jewelry store anymore. With age comes wisdom or maybe you just become boring - ha!

THREE?! That’s the height of minimalism!

I wish it would dissuade me but doesn’t. I have too much but I do love the pieces I have. Of the pieces you have below I love the Ruby band the most in part for its versatility.

Kinda sorta maybe. I've given away all the stuff I loved at purchase then ended up not wearing very much -- rings, necklaces, earrings -- and wear my foundation pieces which are all comprised of ACAs for necklaces and studs and my wedding ring on LH and TheMrsB on my RH. Then during the past 2 years, I've purchased 3 stones for rings. Two I hid when we went on vacay and can't find. The tsav I want to set is still in my drawer along with a custom BGD ring that needs reset because I can't decide how I want them set.

My opinion is that I don't need any jewelry. I want it. When I want it bad enough I buy it and when I don't want it anymore I give it away. I should sell it but it's easier for me to give to people I know will enjoy it. Failing that, I'll leave the whole mess for my DILs to fight over when I die :mrgreen2:

@MissGotRocks, You could never be described as boring!

Most who know me probably wouldn’t say boring . . . consistent perhaps! Lol! I just like what I like and don’t really entertain much else. My husband always says that I order the same meal at a particular restaurant (different meals at different restaurants obviously). That’s because I know what I like at each one and don’t want to take the chance of ordering something new and not liking it. He always tries something new and often times is disappointed. There is a method to my madness!

LOL. My husband and I do the same thing. We aren’t the couple who can’t figure out what to order at our favorite restaurants.

Yes. I’m a wearer not a collector. I also don’t have the budget right now for what I would want to buy so there’s that.

yes, I am a bit dissuaded. But not much. I have a lot of rings. I still have a few small loose stones that I want to set, and a ring or two that I want to reset. I'm a ring person. I don't care to buy any more earrings. I always wear studs. And I don't look for more things to wear around my neck, nor do I ever wear my bracelets. But I wear my rings and change them out regularly. I also like, white, yellow and rose, so like to have a choice in all metal colors.

I confess.
I have too many diamond rings ... which would be two.

99% of the time I wear my Octavia.

I rotate my rings (and other jewelry) and wear everything I have somewhat regularly or get rid of it, if I don’t care for it any more. That way, I don’t forget what I have and so on. I’m pretty well hooked on getting more anyway though so to me, it’s more about getting new rings etc. that I’ll wear, filling gaps and buying pieces aren’t too similar to whatever I already have. =)2

“Too many rings” does not exist in my mind but “already have enough to have a hard time deciding” does. These days I am making a conscious effort not to repeat cuts.

@Starstruck8 Same. Plus I tend not to wear large stones that often so I veer away from them and as a result can collect many small varieties. I am probably less discriminating but still have standards in that the specimens need to be pretty and not over-priced just for the feeling of being exclusive.

I'm with you @kenny. I've got 2 erings and feel like it's 1 too many! I'm definitely a minimalist at heart!

@nala what if you had to get rid of something when you buy something new? Would that help you to buy less and only
buy things that you truly love?

Sometimes I just have a hankering to buy something when I don't really need anything. If that's what's going on
then I figure out what I want that will scratch that itch. Sometimes it's as simple as a new tube of lipstick or lip gloss!

...

But if you have two husbands now, then having two e-rings is okay.

Which one do you like better?
Do they get along okay?

I always do this with jewelry! I call it upgrading, lol. I think that with these pieces, I didn’t view that option bc they didn’t fall under any “upgradable items”

I think about doing this, but then I look at what I might get rid of and think about the amount I would get if selling and it always seems like I'd rather just keep it and then buy the new thing. I guess I don't like the idea of taking 30-50% less than what I paid for something and if selling isn't for financial needs, then it doesn't make sense to me.

Well I should update you all that your advice went out the window this morning. Lmao. I pulled the trigger on the emerald ring that @purplejade posted! And I didn’t even talk myself out of it! Like. I just knew that I wanted it for my 50th bday gift to myself!

Good for you @nala and Happy Birthday! Can’t wait to see your new beauty.

Happy Bday! I bought from her too - she priced them to fly so how can one resist?!

I have a sister to there is always someone to give stuff to if I need to clear out my stash a bit.

I've moved to bigger rings with more fru fru in recent years so have handed over quite a few things to the Lil Sis. We joke that I need to find a giant pink ring so I can give her one of my pinks. I gave her a small pink sapphire ring and she wears it so often, I'm sick of seeing it! She really needs another one to mix and match.
