I am a blanket freak .. I always have a cover over me no matter how hot it is. That said, I want to do a guestbook quilt and am having trouble finding quilt squares. Does anyone know where I can find them?! I guess if all else fails I'll cut them myself ..

ETA - Topic should say 4" but it didn't add the " ..

I don''t know if these come in 4 inch squares or not, but you can buy what are called Fat Quarters at any quilt store. They are small pieces of material that are square cut, but I don''t know the dimensions. I know this because my mom is a quilter!

Keepsake Quilting is a well-known mail order quilt store (predating the internet age!) that sells 4"and 5" squares:

However, I''m assuming you want plain fabric, or fabric with very faint prints, so people can sign the squares to be made into a quilt? Most of the pre-cut squares available in quilt stores or on-line feature prints and might not be suitable for what you have in mind. I think your best option would be to go to a quilt store and ask for help. They can help you pick a good fabric and show you how to cut the squares using a rotary cutter and clear plastic ruler.... If you''re planning to put the quilt together yourself you''ll need these tools anyhow!

Excellent advice. We did quilt squares instead of a guest book for our wedding. I kind of ran out of time so I didn''t have time to pick a quilt pattern. I asked the ladies at my quilt shop what would be the most adaptable size for a quilt project They said to cut a 8.5" square (to finish as an 8") but then to draw a 6.5" border inside with erasable marker. Tell folks to stay within the border when they draw/write on the square. That way you have the flexibility to finish them out at 6" or 8".

Also, cut freezer paper to size and iron it on the back of the fabric. It acts as a stabilizer and really makes it much easier to write on the fabric.

Our guests LOVED the quilt squares. They had a ball drawing and writing on them. I can''t wait to find time to decide on the project and start sewing!

Fleur -- right back atcha -- those are great suggestions, especially the one about using freezer paper to stabilize the fabric! If you used the blue pen eraseable markers, I've seen it set if left in for a lo-o-ong time. I'm not sure how long is too long, but you might want to take a few minutes to rinse squares to remove ink, if you haven't already done so, just to be on the safe side.

MommaChristine -- if you're including kids in your reception, you might consider getting colored markers or heat-set crayons so they can also contribute to your quilt.
