Does EW only sell through retailers now? I had thought you could order on her website - no?

I contacted her re a quote, and she flick passed me to a link to find a retailer.

Anyone else a different experience to this?

With respect, I’d say she has no idea who she’s potentially passing up…. “ Big mistake…huge” :twisted2:

I wondered if perhaps she doesn't sell to the public anymore on her website?

Has anyone been able to order a ring through her website recently?

Custom project?

Custom project?

Nope. A few tweaks, but none that she doesn't already offer for that ring (Laurel setting) - two tone and with 6 prongs - both versions of which she shows on her thread for that setting.

She must not sell directly anymore. Are you setting your beautiful new diamond in that setting???

There's one in Boston, too. I guess you saw these if you were on her site.

Hi there, @diamondseeker2006 :wavey:

As far as I know, she's sold through retailers for years - but you could also still order from her site directly. I know some people are fairly devoted to her, so I wondered if she's only selling directly now to prior customers.

Not that I agree it was handled elegantly
If it’s permanent, hopefully it’s soon addressed on her website clearer.
We all know when a designer/jeweler gets too busy it’s not in everyone’s best interests for that designer/jeweler to continue to wear all the hats.

You are right. On the page for a particular ring, it says "contact us to order". So she certainly needs to get that changed on her website rather than just replying with the retailer link.

Elegantly? No. Not elegantly.

We have an expression in Australia - "subtle as a fart in the bath".

Kinda struck me like that, really.

Happy to persevere regardless if there's any chance of working it out, but I suspect, never having worked with her before, that my chances of doing a project with her are probably about zero.

Not to worry! I have a couple of ideas in mind - one with a holly leaf basket that isn't dissimilar in 'feel', tho has nothing actually in common when you break it down, and is based around my holly motif. The other is a pave garland basket solitaire, similar to how the basket was designed in my Merry ring a few years back, but this time with pave.

I'm dancing around here trying to avoid stepping on anyone's toes, and working hard not to overlap anyone's designs. I was originally going to do a basket of pave petals, but I don't want to infringe on Jon's gorgeous new Lotus design.

Trying to do all the right things here, while still getting something I love. Not easy when you're talking about something no bigger than 3/4" x 3/4", which has been done billions of times!

If you follow through on that link, too, it asks what size finger you have and the size of your stone. So that sure sounds like "we'll make your ring" to me.

Hopefully she'll update her site soon.

I should have just said
‘I don’t think it was handled very well’

was trying to use nice words.
I’d like an EW someday, too.

Good relationships with vendors other clients isn’t a new strategy, though, is it?

I think you worded it just fine. :))

I can totally see you with an EW, R. It would suit you, too. And that's pretty high praise.

What a disappointing reply, especially considering the price point! I’ve similarly had a designer pass me off to a retailer, but they were far kinder and still offered to work directly with me if that was my preference

I have to say I didn't get a thrilling response when I contacted her. In fact, it was borderline rude. I have found all if my EW pieces at retailers.

I also had this sort of interaction with EW, which threw me off. I contacted her through her website and asked if she could provide a quote for creating my ring with my own diamond. She got back to me right away, but the tone of the responses made me feel as if I was inconveniencing her. A bit disappointing considering the her price points. Gorgeous craftsmanship though - maybe I'll persevere and just put the tone of her responses aside. For reference, she quoted me $4100 for a 18k and platinum prong laurel solitaire.

Erika doesn’t chitchat. At all. She’s professional and her responses are detailed and thorough, but she’s not going to engage in small talk and if she disagrees with something you say she’ll say “no”, not “yes, and [...]” like many vendors. I can see how her communication style may feel sterile or unwelcoming to people who are used to the way that most PS vendors interact with their clients.

No idea what the deal is with the website contact form. She may in fact prefer to hand inquiries off to retailers. If that’s the case - ditto, the website should be updated to reflect that.

Just a heads up that her pricing is the same whether a quote is given directly or through one of her retailers. Worth mentioning since we know that it can be less pricey to approach some jewellers directly rather than pay a third party retailer markup.

@mrs-b feel free to shoot me an email.

This is good feedback, thank you! Wasn't sure if it was just me or if that's just the way she rolls. Straight to the point is probably best when you're responding to lots in enquiries.

I see what you're saying, @yssie. This wasn't that, tho.

I'm not chit-chatty with vendors either. My email was short and followed all the requested protocol.

I received a second email from her sales person, and the impression I received was that she wasn't selling via her website. I have no issue with that. I just want what I want. I don't really care who gives it to me, so long as it's what I want and the price is fair.

yes EW is very direct and doesn’t chitchat. What is frustrating that she offers a custom order on her page - but me and another PSer weren’t allowed to get a custom order done from her. And now she doesn’t let you order through her website but states it on her website?

I ended up getting the Margot. And it is the most beautiful setting I have seen. The design, the craftsmanship, I would go back to EW in a heart beat, even though communication with her made me feel bad/ stupid. I did read @mrs-b that you don’t prefer small/ think shanks. Her shanks are so very fine and delicate (but in a sturdy way).

I agree with everything here. Her work is beautiful and perfect. Her communication a bit harsh and I am not talking about chitchat.

Also, @mrs-b, I agree also on the thin shanks. The Margot shank is 1.8 mm. It is very sturdy but very delicate.

I had the same experience recently. I sent a short note requesting a quote and she coldly insisted I work with a retailer. When I asked a simple follow-up question, she again stated I need to work with the retailer.
