I am interested in pink sapphires and wanted any input from where everyone got theirs. (or any color sapphire).

I am having ring, earrings, necklace, bracelet made so I will need a few with hopefully matching colors. I am 99% sure I will go with Asscher cut.

I will take any feedback / info / tips / advice!

I purchased my sapphires from Wink at www.winkjones.com He helped me find matched pairs for my ring (sidestones). Another name I would recommend (if you want them as asscher cuts) is to contact Jeff at www.whitesgems.com to cut them. He cut a pink spinel asscher for me and a blue sapphire asscher for neatfreak.

I got mine from the Natural Sapphire Company. I wasn''t looking for a padparadsha, or even a sapphire for that matter, so I didn''t ask them to find anything in particular. But they were very helpful to me, and I know they''ve tracked stones down for others on this forum who wanted something particular.

Definitely we''ll want to see pictures when you get stones!

If you want asscher cut, you may as well go directly to Jeff White. You rarely see sapphire in asscher cut anywhere else. It's too bad you didn't contact him a few days ago, because he is at the Tuscon gem show for the next week buying rough. But I am sure he can get some for you if he doesn't already have it.

Chrono, your stone and neatfreak's are two of my all time favorite colored stones! I adore colored stones in asscher cut!

Chrono, I was actually drooling over neatfreak''s asscher but want it in pink then when I saw your spinel I about died. I had never heard of spinel before so I have been doing research. Are you happy with spinel? I am wondering how dark I can go in ping and still see the step cuts of an asscher.

Pjean - thanks for the info. I have actually been looking at natural sapphire company already - so glad I am at least in the right direction!

DiamondSeeker - I tried to get ahold of Jeff before he went so he could get a big rough rock to cut all of my stones from so they will be the same color but he said it was too late. He will contact me when he returns though. I think you are right - I may stick with him to get the asscher cut.

Thanks all for the info.

mine is being cut at the moment i live in montana and go to the sapphires mines near by every summer found my 2.12ct pink sapphire there this past summer

Wow. You go directly to the mines? That''s awesome. Do you have special contacts, or do you just go, or what? I assume you have experience picking rough, but how did you get the experience?

Just. So. Cool. I didn''t even know it was possible.

(Sorry. Too much coffee=too much blather. But still.)

Sparkle,
I like spinels...a lot.

To me, they are undervalued. They come in many colours, are non treated, are just below sapphires in toughness and have a high dispersive effect. You don''t want to go too dark if you want to be able to see the steps. My recommendation is to have a cutter cut the stone specially for you since there aren''t many asscher cut gemstones in the market. You''ve contacted Jeff which is great. He''ll be able to steer you in the right direction in terms of colour.

its pretty simple there are places all around here near phillipsburg mt you just go and u can sift threw the gravel and dirt very simple i have never filled my sifting tray and not come away with 1 or more sapphires the mines are open to the public there is even a store u can go to and sift for sapphires in the store it cost way to much money to do that though and i like going to the mine or even going to a near by river or creek and sifting the dirt and rock there lol i guess thats why the call the mountains around the area the sapphire mountains at the moment i have 1500 sapphires not all facetable but id say 25 percent is facetable but pink is hard to come by took me 3 years to get a pink

Could he get sapphire rough that is unheated/untreated? I love that asscher cut!

Best to ask him yourself.

I just bought a gorgeous golden-cinnamon natural/untreated/unheated 1.26ct Tanzanian sapphire from WildFish Gems... they''re FABULOUS. I was very impressed with their environmentally sensitive policies towards the mines and the miners. I was even more impressed with the selection, the variety, and the emphasis on untreated gems. I ordered 6 different stones from them which arrived in 4 days flat-- all nicely individually boxed and wrapped, including a loupe and gem pincers! I ordered a dravite tourmaline, a peridot, a garnet, and three sapphires. I had a VERY hard time picking one (for my engagement ring!) And Ed Bristol has been extremely professional and helpful. I will be sending the five I didn''t pick back (with a very heavy heart, but the fiance says I need something to look forward to!) I can''t say enough nice things about WildFish. When I get the sapphire set I will post photos!

Anyway here is the link to my Tanzania sapphire.
