I see tonns of rings very similar to this. I want a platinum setting like the following.
I''d rather not have it custom made. It seems like something very simple. Some has got to have made this in the past.

But it''s always either just tension , or the prong in the center. I''ll show what I found bellow.

I don''t trust a full tension setting. I''ve heard of the stones getting looose after a few years. My fiancee to be is a pretty active person and therefore want a closing link on the bottom to ensure that you can bang the ring without putting extra stress on the rock.

This is what BLue Nile has. I want the same thing but with a tension setting in the top part instead of the prongs. I will photochop this picture to explain what I mean exactly.

Here is what I have in mind. Like the left side of the ring. I know someone has done this in the past. But I can''t find anything. Any sugestions are Very welcome.

http://www.solomonbrothers.com/ has a great online gallery for checking out all sorts of rings. You might want to check there.

This is a Scott Kay setting i was looking at one point. If i remember correctly, there is no metal going across the bottom like you would like though.

This is similar to the other i posted, but the edges are flat vs. round

I looked through salomon brothers site, and saw those settings. I hate those flat things.

Here''s another. It almost is semi-tension but think it would qualify as prong. *shrugs*

Here''s one, click on the link. I think there''s a few that you can search for on this Robbins''s bro''s site.....

Here is why I want this setting. I really like the looks of a tension setting where nothing is holding the rock from the bottom. "Fiancee to be" already has ring with an itsy-bitsy diamond like that and she loves it. She mentioned on many ocations that she wanted her engagement ring to be like that. We also stopped by in a jewelry desighner store in Soho.

Stewart Moore) She tried a tension setting ring, with a normal sized stone and loved it.

Anyway I am very concerned about getting a real tension setting, because she's a very physically active person. We go hiking/biking/rollerblading/white-water rafting (more like floating down the river with a bunch of alcohol)/skiing and so on. Anyway tension setting - bad, need something stronger. I know everyone says that they are strong , yet at the same time everyone sais that the stone sometimes becomes loose after a few years and needs a visit to the jewler to be tightened. E-ring is a lifetime ring. And it will not be coming off the finger much.

Buttom line is: I want a semitension setting. And I want the look of the tension setting. Meaning open bottom of the rock. The design I got it Extemely simple (In my opinion. having it custom made seems a bit odd, for something this simple.

E-ring is a lifetime ring. And it will not be coming off the finger much.

You may want to think twice about this...I am also active (rollerblading, scuba diving, snorkeling, etc.) and ALWAYS take my w-set off before leaving to engage in such activities. I still see my w-set as a lifetime set, and for that reason, I don''t want ANYTHING to happen to it. Especially since she likes tension settings (they are quite cool!), wearing it in active situations can cause even a pronged ring to loosen...

Just some food for thought...you''re putting A LOT of money into this ring..wouldn''t want to see anything happen to it..

Here it is... by Icestore (LINK). This ing was made for a Pricescope poster a while ago, so you might find it listed in one of the threads in "Show me the ring" - it was a pinky ring as far as I remember.

Dimenscassi lists a version (if not the very same) as well.

And of course you can have it made custom to the exact proportions you want.

Thr rings look great and there is allot of room to tweak details into a new version...

I was also under the impression that you could have any jeweler put a "bar" of gold or platinum under a ring designed to be a tension setting after the fact. This would make the stone more secure.

This designer, Paul Klecka makes a ring like that, called "floater" I believe (look under The Diamond and The Future). I think Stuart Moore in Soho may carry them but i'm not positive.

Found more pictures of Klecka rings on this site

Could not link to this flash site... take a look.

YES YES YES YES THANK you very much !!!

Here is the picture you couldn't post.
These are the Paul Klecka Domed floaters :) for anyone else who will be looking for these in the future.
I absolutely love

Found an authorized dealer not too far from work.
Will go to take a look at it Monday.

Great job, Valeria! Once again you saved the day!

Does anyone sell Scassi in the NY/NJ/Westchester area?
I''d want to take a look at that one too.
The things holding the stone seem a bit too wide and the profile sems odd,
but that''s probably due to the picture not doing justice.

Also the price on the that price seems a bit extreme.
I could understand like $1000-1200 but 1800 is going too far.
That cuts into the stone fund. (which I already bought)
Here is a bigger picture of the Scassi ring that was posted by Valleria.

here is what makes me say that the things holding the stone are odd. But Again that''s probably only on the picture. It''s probably looks much better in person.

sorry wrong pic

Elepri, thanks for the hint about PK rings... his designs are very nice ! Good to keep in mind.

Chudilo, I do not know if Dimend Scassi have any other store selling their "signature" rings (that is one of them) since this is a diamond retailer, not a designer brand.

Just went to see The Paul Klecka's Domed Floater.
The ring is very heavy. Does that make it uncomfortable?
They suposedly spoke directly to the designer himself and according to them this setting will run me around $2500-2800.
And they would have to send the stone out to the designer to custom make it for my particular stone, which will take about 4 weeks.

In that amount of time and for that amount money I can get something custom made down here in NYC and it would be more adherent to what I really want.

That price tag is sick. The price would be less with two Decent side stones.

And It is official (I called to cofirm) Scassi only has thhe one showroom in Chicago and no third party resellers so I can not see it in person. So that rules those two out.

that is a really cool looking design

Well I guess it's settled :) Unless someone tells me about another designer really soon. I'm going to finish my drawing and get it custom made.
Because the designer prices are sickening and I know my idea rocks.
I did realize that the top holding up the rock has to be conciderably thicker. which is true about Blue nile photoChopped design.

I will do the two views of it and will give to someone to make. The firend that sold me the rock wors with a designer who would be able to manufacture this.

Do you guys think I should copyright it before posting? Cause I know some of you vultures are just waiting for something like this

Heh he.

Here is the first sketch.
I''m going to separate this into a separate thread since the subject matter is now changed.

Hey! That is wonderful ! Looking at your ring it is very clear that you can do better by yourself. Allot better

Copyright doesn''t quite hold for jewelry...

Someone just posted this in another thread.
These guys are out in Portland Maine (reachable by car from NYC)
It's a 5 hour drive but it's still easier then making a custom tention design.

sgg.jpg

I called them up, they have a solid plantinum setting on display with a 1.5 rock (mine is 1.22)
for around $1500. This one finally seems like it is a viable design that does everythign I was lookin for and is in my price range.

Road trip coming up next week :)

Your sketch is really cool. Going custom makes perfect sense in your case.
