When we purchased my FI''s band from BGD, I forgot to get in engraved. We leave for our "weddingmoon" in just 12 days and I thought it would be a nice surprise to get his ring engraved before we leave. I just called a local place that PSers recommend but they have a turnaround time of 2 weeks. Is this typical? I guess I thought engraving could/would be pretty quick and I could have it done while I waited. Is that naive? Do they do engraving at places like Jared?

Also, I''m curious if you all got your FI/DH''s bands engraved and what you got! I was just going to get our wedding date.

When I got our rings engraved it took about 24 hours. I''m guessing that if it is going to take them 2 weeks they are probably mailing them off to get engraved by someone else. I got ours done at a place that engraves all kinds of things, but I would think that any local jeweler that offers engraving would be able to do it for you. It''s just a matter of finding one that will do it in house.

Our engravings are below:

Mine: grow old along with me...
His: ...the best is yet to be

It''s from a robert browning poem. His dad spoke those words to his mom at their rehersal dinner and DH has put them in a few of the letters he''s written to me.

We ordered my band from Facets/Signed Pieces and they accidentally forgot to engrave it so DH took it to a local place and SP reimbursed him for it. I think it took a week for it to come back in (they oursourced it). I bet you can find a place with a faster turnaround time. Willl a place like Things Rememebered do it for you while you wait? I think they engrave on the spot but it might only be their items.

I put "You are my one. Mo Anam Cara." in DH''s band. Mo Anam Cara translates to something like "soul mate" in Gaelic. The first part is inspired by the passage in the Bible (forgive me for totally lacking knowledge about what spefic passage I''m referring to here) where Eve is created and Adam is happy to have his "one" or his partner in life. I am not religious but when we did our Pre Cana classes this particular moment stuck to me. I can imagine how Adam felt because I too am so happy to be going through life with DH as my partner.

He put "Forever grateful for you" in mine. No idea how he decided on it, but I love what he chose.

The engraving was a surprise to each other on the day of our wedding. Neither of us knew what was in the rings until after the ceremony when we could take them off and look at them.

I heard of one woman who got her husband''s band engraved with "do not remove". lol

I had my hubby''s ring engraved, it took 10 days.

I have this little saying, say when he does something nice for me I''ll say "You know you''re my favourite, right?" or "Thanks! You are SO my favourite!" And so on.

So... I had "forever my favourite" engraved inside his ring. I surprised him with it on our wedding morning. He loved it.

Ours took 7 days, it was done in house, but it is a LARGE jeweler. We got "My Bashert (infinity symbol) 6.13.10"

Bashert translates to soulmate in Hebrew.

ETA: We also got several wedding items engraved at Things Remembered which took an hour. Look around for a local engraver.

My DH''s band says "For Keeps" with our wedding date. It is what my great-grandmother had engraved on my great-grandfather''s wedding band and I have always thought it was super sweet and funny.

I''m thinking of surprising hub and getting his done. I want to put in it "the best is yet to be" if they can fit it all in. I love that quote.. it''s part of a Robert Browning poem that goes, "Grow old along with me.. the best is yet to be."
