My mom and I are going to be visiting my sister in NYC in mid July and we plan on going dress shopping b/c I really want my sister''s opinion (esp. since she is my MOH). My question for all you wonderful ladies is, where are good places to go? I have heard some not so good things about Kleinfelds but we are probably going to go there since they have so many different designers. I also want to go to the new Priscilla''s of Boston to try on some Melissa Sweet gowns. Where else should I go? I know that I need to make appointments so I want to do so this upcoming week. Also, which places allow pics and which do not? (I know Kleinfelds doesn''t unless you buy the dress)

TIA for all the suggestions!

Hi Rachie-

I bought my dress at Kleinfeld, and I have to say, my experience there was truly fine. I had also heard negative things, but I went ahead and made an appt anyway, and was pleasantly surprised. I was assigned a really sweet consultant that was so positive and not pushy at all- and she really knew her stuff. So, I do suggest going there- their selection is fabulous!!

Other places you can check out are: Saks Fifth Avenue, Mark Ingram''s Bridal Atelier, Vera Wang, and places like RK Bridal for discount designer dresses. I''ve heard you have to have a lot of patience for RK, but if you are willing, its supposedly a great place to find discounted gowns.

If I think of any other places I will let you know. Good luck!!!!

Rachie: I would definitely try Kleinfelds...I didn''t have a great experience there, but they do have a LOT of dresses. I also really liked Designer Loft - great service and some great designers, like Jenny Packham. If you have a comfy budget, definitely try Mark Ingram and Lara Helene. I may be biased, since I had my dress made at Lara Helene, but I can''t say enough about the quality of the dresses and the service there. Check the website out before you go, though, since the dresses there are a little different than the usual fare and not everyone''s taste.

I had a nice experience at Kleinfeld''s. Its a bit tough, just because there are so many dresses, its a bit overwhelming. The SA was very patient though and didn''t push hard. I also had a great SA at Saks. You don''t get to see all the dresses, so you have to trust the SA a bit. I didn''t go, but I also have heard good things and wanted to go to Bergdorf''s, Mark Ingram''s and Vera Wang.

Thanks so much for the info! I really appreciate it. My sister just moved there last Sept. for her job and so she wasn''t so sure where to go either. This helps a lot! Yay!
