Quick question:
Does anyone have a good idea for what to do with my engagement ring while at the gym? I don''t want to keep it on my hand while weightlifting, but I don''t want to leave it in my locker, either. Can anyone offer a better solution?

A while ago I was trying to figure that out, too... boy, those weights sure do bang up the bottom of a ring!

The best solution I have seen was to wear it on a necklace chain. Then it's with you (so not being stolen) and protected from the wear and tear of exercise.

That seems to work the best - although it means I am now carrying around a necklace in my gym bag since the necklace I do wear on a daily basis is 24k gold and needs to be bent to get it off and on. I'm afraid with too much bending it will break.

Anyway - give it a try!

I keep my one ring and watch in my gym bag, with my water, magazines, etc, and such and carry it around with me.

My jeweler gives customers silver chains upon which to hang their rings when they're in the gym.

I would be worried about the chain breaking while I was working out. The average gym has a lot of things you might snag a chain on, and if you were working out hard, you might not realize it until it was too late.

I think I've seen nylon velcro-closure "wallet" type things that you can strap onto your wrist or arm. That strikes me as far more secure a solution.

Thanks, everyone, for those ideas. I, too, am worried about a chain snagging and breaking. I've even considered sewing a little velcro pocket to wear around my upper arm (like a workout radio), but it would be much easier to come across such a product already in existence. Does anyone know where to buy the nifty little item that LawGem has seen?

I stop at the gym on my drive home from work. My car has a good alarm (and Lojack), so I take off all my jewelry, including e-ring in the car (after making sure no one is standing nearby watching) and leave them in a divided jewelry pouch hidden in my car. It's not ideal, but I do not like to wear any jewlry at the gym and I think it is safer to leave it in my car, than to take it off in the locker room in front of everyone and leave it in my locker.

Physics babe,

I've seen similar items here at Mountain Equipment Co-op...that's a Canadian store but they're located across Canada. In the states, you might want to check out some outdoor outfitters or travelling stores...they might have something like that there.

Go to Wal/K Mart and look in the baby section for diaper pins. Pin ring(s) inside sock or the inside of the part of your shoe's tongue that isn't laced to your foot. Diaper pins are very secure, and you would know where your ring(s) is/are at all times.

Thanks for the ideas. I've also found a few other options by visiting some sports equipment retailers. Brooks (running shoe manufacturer) makes a nifty "wrist wallet" that suits the purpose, and several different brands (e.g. Jogalite and Nathan) make a "shoe pocket" that attaches firmly to any laced shoe and holds keys, money, ID... or my e-ring! Problem solved.

I will always put it in my shoe lace or not wear it to the gym. Im there to get in and get out and not to socialize anyway. If I have a ring on or not at the gym makes no difference , a ring will not keep me from straying

I know this is a guys view and maybe some parts will help. Good topic!

Ice,

You're so good looking you'd get hit on even if you were wearing a head-to-toe snowsuit like the kids wear! I'm sure the ladies love to "ask you for advice" while working out.
