Anyone got any ideas where I can sell my prom dress? I just found it in storage. It''s a real Christian Dior from I Magnin an old high end store here in the bay area. What with people getting 160 bucks for empty boxes, I thought it might be worth asking if anyone has any ideas (other than ebay) of where I could sell this thing. It''s still fashionable. I''ve seen similar dresses in the stores, so it''s not a dated eye sore. (Prom was only 15 years ago after all).

Does a 15 year old gown qualify as vintage? Or is it just used... on it''s way to vintage. Should I hold onto it and get rid of it later?

You could try http://www.decadesinc.com/ as they are a vintage consignment business, check them out! I think they are in LA.

You wore a Dior to prom?? Lucky lucky girl!!!

You could call Lily et Cie in Los Angeles, they deal a lot with vintage. A ton of the stars now are so into that. Not sure if 15 years counts, but in clothing it might. You might have a shot if it is in good shape, you might be able to send a digital photo to them.

Oooooooooh Great Leads!!

Yeah, I wore a Dior to Prom. Red Dior Gown. I''m a spoiled only child. Plus I Magnin was going out of business, so it was on sale. Prom was... in the ninties. Early ninties. Don''t know if it would qualify either, but it''s worth checking out I think!

Why isn''t there a pic?

Because I want one...

It''s rumpled but quite a bit. If I decide to sell it I''ll send it to the cleaners so I can take better pics. But I snap a couple off and post them for you all.

ohhhhhh.........I wanna see it!!!!

It's really rumpled. So you can't really get an idea... but here it is. Satin back crepe. The strip on the bodice is the satin side of the material. The satin strip used to extend so that it was one large strap over one shoulder. We altered it and made two straps out of one.

Bodice .

Hotness. I''d buy it. Of course, I''m not much of a red girl, but I''d still buy it.

And then go buy shoes to match!

Looks gorgeous, gypsy. I''m sure you''ll be able to sell it somewhere, if not on ebay or any of the places suggested...maybe on craigslist? I heart craigslist. I wore red to my senior prom too, in ''95...but not Dior! I wish! My mom still has my prom gown and is always after me to let her sell it. I can''t seem to let go...ha ha. Good luck!

Wow....that''s gorgeous. May I please vote DON''T SELL?

Why El?

I wonder if that value is changed b/c of the alterations. I''d sell it.

Gorgeous! I hope you are able to make some great $$$!

I wonder about that too. That''s why I figured I''d call a few places that specialize in these things and ask them. If the value is changed because of the alterations... EBAY baby. I''ll list it with a reasonable reserve and let the free market do it''s thing especially as it''s almost prom season.

I don''t have any sentimental attachment to it. My junior prom dress (also purchased at imagnin and lovely... gonna send pics of that off to the places mentioned as well, but it''s not a dior gown) has more sentiment attached to it for me.

There''s a vintage store on Haight street called La Rosa. I would call them, if they aren''t interested they may know of a place.

If that doesn''t work try looking for consignment shops, I believe there''s some on Fillmore, that might be able to sell it for you.

I could totally see Hayden Panatierre or Miley Cyrus in that. Vintage is all the rage, many stars wear it to events.

Freke, have I taught you nothing? Gold sandals! No red shoes unless and it is a big one, they are strappy red satin with some stones on them.

I totally agree. But this is something that I would have used against my mom to get just one more pair of shoes. "But mom, they MATCH the dress!"
Strappy gold sandals with red Dior dress-Check!
