Where to sell diamond for best price?

I have a diamond from a previous engagement ring that I am upgrading to a bigger diamond from White Flash. The diamond I want to sell is a AGS 000 and looking under a hearts and arrows viewer shows a good hearts and arrows image but really hard to get a good picture of it. I would like to get good images of it like White Flash does to show the H&A pics and ASET and Ideal scope images to show buyers to get the most I can for it. I was inquiring about sending it to get a GCAL certification where they take hearts and arrows pics. Are there any other places that provide this type of service? I looked into places to sell like Abe More and some places will consign it. I felt Abe Mor was a little low but I also didnt have H&A images or ASET images etc to provide them. Anyone have luck selling their diamond and getting at least wholesale value for it and how did you sell it? looking at retail prices it could be anywhere from $8000 to $10000. Not expecting that but what is wholesale prices for an 8-10k retail or fair resale value?
Here is the AGS report on it.

Thanks, I have gained a ton of info from this site and helped me purchase a beautiful ACA diamond from Whiteflash.

You could see if there is a PS-recommended appraiser near you. Call and ask if they can do those images and give you an estimate
for resale value. Of course, it depends on whether you try to sell it yourself, consign it, or sell it to a vendor.

I'm not sure whether having these extra images will help increase what you can get for it or maybe just make it easier to sell.

We do have a pre-loved forum where you could try to sell it. You have to list it somewhere like diamondbistro, loupetroup or
ebay first then provide the link to it.

In general, reselling to a private party will get you somewhere around 60-70% of what a jeweler could sell for. Certainly not an exact number, but an approximation. I would also ask WF If they'd be willing to buy it as part of your purchase. They might give you more for it since you're already buying from them.

I like the idea of asking WF If they would consider taking the stone on trade. The AGS report shows good proportions with a solid ASET.

The ASET shows a little digging around the 12 o’clock position and you see some green slivers of light return show up in the table from about 5 to 12 o’clock which I think is mainly due to 35c/41p relationship.

Still a solid stone and better than most out there. Depending how precise the H&A’s really are I could see this stone potentially falling into their premium/expert select category.

To me the hurdle will be finding a value that works for both you and WF. They will have some expenses getting ready to resell plus still allow room for profit margin, holding time to sell, etc. Often a number that works for them can be offensive to a customer and it puts them in a tough spot to even accept a trade as they don’t want to alienate customers or gain a bad reputation as a result.

If you don’t trade I would ask them if you could pay a small fee to have them create images of your existing stone. They may decline but their equipment is top shelf and something that will be hard to replicate elsewhere.

Obviously GCAL is a potential option and as some may recall (now defunct) HPD used them for their imaging.

If you sell privately I think getting an updated lab report is important. While I personally love the AGS report I think most buyers will want the confidence of knowing TODAY the stone doesn’t have chips or other damage that could have occurred over 12+ years potentially reducing quality and/or clarity grade. You provide that assurance by giving them an updated report. And you can also include the AGS report too which may further provide transparency and honesty with a potential buyer.

Here’s my rub. While I like the imaging GCAL offers you, I think GIA with the AGS addendum (after they “merged” 12/2022) is what I think the majority of buyers will appreciate and recognize as quality. Also it’s the closest thing to keeping with its heritage of being a truly graded AGS stone, but just updated for today’s world.

My last thoughts, have you researched the forum on how to take better photos? I agree it’s hard but there are some tips & tricks and shooting your own H&A images and maybe even an ASET and/or idealscope image as well. I will try to find some data to share if others don’t beat me to it.

Could be worth checking with Jonathan from Distinctive Gem re: consignment/trade

Thank you all for the recommendations. I did ask Whiteflash when I purchased my diamond from them about buying the one I had but they said they didnt buy pre owned diamonds. I will look into the other ideas mentioned. I do think that's a good point from sledge to get an updated GIA/AGS report. I think you can get it with the hearts and arrows image now. I will maybe ask Whiteflash if it would be possible to get some images taken for a fee. Doesnt hurt to ask. Its hard lining up the H&A scope to get it just right to take a pic but here is an attempt. They definitely look better than what I can capture with the cell phone camera.
Edit. I did check with Johnathan so may go that route on consignment.

Good luck! Its a nice stone and will make someone happy. Better than most I've seen out there in the wild. Are you sure you don't want to keep it and make it into something else?

GIA doesn't do hearts and arrows and AGS closed in January (they didn't either but now they don't do anything at all).
The GCAL 8x report includes the photos you're asking for and they take work from anyone who will pay them, just like GIA. Prices are reasonable.
Taking these pictures well is considerably more difficult than it looks and you are comparing yourself with the masters who have decades of experience at it.

The trick comes after that.

If you're selling to a dealer, let them do their own paperwork. You don't need to do it for them. They all know how to do it and if they want it, they can pay. If you're going to try to retail it and you want top dollar, you pretty much have to. If you're going to consign it, negotiate about who pays for what and when. Bear in mind that the consignors with the best services tend not to be the cheapest.
