I am going "window shopping" with my boyfriend this weekend. I have a few places in mind that we are going to go to. I am looking for more suggestions of B&M stores that have a HUGE selection of settings to try on. The problem is that my ring size is @ 7.5, and the stores that I have been to in the past don''t carry stock rings large enough to fit on my finger. I would really like to see how some of the rings would actually look on me. Can you recommend any in Maryland? or DC? PA? DE? VA?

THANKS!

For places with a lot of settings, I''ve found that Charleston Alexander in Bailey''s Crossroads (NoVa) is good. Not sure about the size of the settings, though. I can sympathize about not having a standard size finger- makes the ring look totally different when it actually fits. Good luck!

The place we visited that had the largest selection of rings to try on was Robbin''s Diamonds. We went to their store in Deleware at the Christiana Mall (link).

Robbins is a local (philly area) family operated chain. I believe the main store is at 8th and Walnut in Philly, but there are a couple others around the area.

The saleswoman who helped us at the Deleware store was very nice and while we did not look at diamonds (too close to closing time) she seemed to know her stuff and talked about how cut is what you really need to look for, that going lower in color/clarity was a good thing if it ment a better cut stone. She also said that if we came back to look at diamonds she would take us over to the windows to see them in the natural light. They have these cool like rooms in the corners of the front of the store that is nothing but huge windows with sunlight pouring in. She even had us sit in there with the settings i picked out to try on to see them in something other than the store lighting. I wish i could remember her name for you!

Unfortunatly, i dont think you will find many places that will carry rings large enough for you to try on your ring finger. It sucks. Im a 6.75 and sometimes i can get them on my ring finger and sometimes i cant. I usually just end up sticking them on my pinky, or sliding them down as far as i can on my ring finger.

Its kinda like store maniquins... if the average clothing size is a 12/14, why do they wear 2s? If the average ring is 7. why are they 5 and 6s? You can always try on a ring that is too big!

Have fun this weekend!!!

Also there''s no tax at Robbins Diamonds!!!

i don''t have a suggestion for you, but i''m a 7 - 7 1/4 and nothing i tried on fit my ring finger -- i kind of had to hold it there or put it on my pinky finger. I can''t wait to get my ring, and i''m sure it''ll be perfect, but you are right, it would have been nice to see how it would really look. Good luck!!!

Thanks for all of the quick feedback!!

I have never been to Robbins, but I know exactly where it is because I am on I-95 a lot. I had put it on my list as a "maybe", but now I think that I will definitely stop in there!

It''s tough if your not a 5 or 6. i am a 7.5 or 8 and NOTHING my jeweler has in stock ever fits my finger, right or left hand.

You just have to try to visualize.

How about trying them on your pinky?

Yep, I will definitely try to visualize.

Luckily, my fingers have a sharp taper, so I should be able to get the rings to the knuckle area and mabe a teeny bit more on my ring finger. I''ll try the pinky, too!

That place was amazing! The PERFECT atmosphere for my b/f. He said the experience was not nearly as stressful as he anticipated and the woman who helped us knew her stuff. I also have to say that I really like their store layout. It was one of the easier places to browse in that I''ve ever been to.

Might be off the beaten track - and I am not sure how you gain admission.... but I saw some clip on TV about the Monte Carlo Formula 1 race, and how some European diamond company was sponsoring it.

I keyed on the following items that were shown that people could try on:

35 Carat natural "canary" yellow IF diamond ring.

55 Carat IF diamond pendant (solitar).

and there was obviously many other things as well; I''m not sure how I would keep steady.

So folks, perhaps you should set your sight on the Monte Carlo Formula 1 race next year to try on some "large" rings and things...

Buena...
I''ve noticed the same thing and when I posted previously on this topic, I didn''t really receive too many useful suggestions. It''s one of those situations that everyone is aware of but that there is no real solution for.

Over the past few months I''ve been trying to determine what I like on my hand without actually being able to try it on. Once I found something that really made my heart skip a beat, I went about tracking it down in CZ form online. I wasn''t able to find exactly the ring I wanted, but something that was similiar enough to give me a general idea. I ordered it and it arrived this weekend and so far I''m very pleased (I''m wearing the set right now at work but hoping no one catches me wearing it hehe). This way I''m able to do my usual daily activities and not only see how it looks aesthetically but how it works for my lifestyle. I can also practice taking tons of photos ;) I intend on keeping this set "just because" hehe but depending on your morals you could possibly order a ring or two, try them on, and return the ones that just don''t work for you (some sites will charge a restocking fee but it''s usually well under 20% and still significantly cheaper than returning a real set if you order it and find it''s not to your liking on your actual finger). To me, keeping the set that will hopefully be similiar to my future wedding set, is well worth the money and time I would have spent driving around from one store to the other to try on the very very few rings I could potentially find in my size.

My solution may not work for you, but I certainly feel more confident being able to try on a very similiar ring in my actual size.

Best of luck with the hunt!

I wear a 7.25 and once went window shopping at Bailey Banks and Biddle. Not everything fit me, but a lot of stuff did.

Once I went to FANCY local B&M store with my mom and a friend of hers who had just spent godknowshowmuch on a three stone ring. My mom and I were interested in picking up a little ring... definitely a purchase definitely WAY under $500... anyway, we narrowed it now to three each, and the jewelery insisted-- even though he knew we were only, maybe, going to buy two--on taking all 6 rings back and quickly sizing them for us! Sounds like a high pressure sales tactic, but it really wasn''t. I wound up going with earrings!
