Which 21-carat yellow diamond do you like better on me?

I was at Sotheby's this afternoon to see the manuscripts (Emily Bronte's poems, a letter of Jane Austen's, some Walter Scott, some Robert Burns), and afterwards I wandered into the jewelry room, where a friendly sales assistant (or whatever they call that job there, probably something MUCH fancier) pressed me to try on these rings. The pear is U/V color, SI2; the oval is FIY, VS2. Personally, I prefer the pear; I didn't care for that bowtie in the oval.

I wouldn't turn either of them down... but the pear definitely is a lot prettier. Turns out the bigger the oval, the more noticeable the bowtie!

IMO, both diamonds are way too large for a ring ... but not a pendant.

As always, judging gem color by pics is problematic.
It's a bit less of a sin when both gems are side by side in front of the camera and not individually altered in post processing.

But if the color in these two pics are accurate I like the oval's color better, but the cut of the pear might have better light performance.

I am an oval cut lover But that ring is fugly. Even the side diamonds are blech. I am not a pear fan but that really is a stunning ring.

They're the same size! Same carat weight; the pear is longer, but thinner.

Yeah, I'm skipping the diamonds and spending my money on a Dutch Old Master still life instead.* They had some very nice ones on display.
