We did it! DF and I bought the loose diamond that I had asked about. Specs are:

GIA certified
5.82x 5.53x 3.95 mm
1.06 carats
Depth: 71.4%
Table: 73%
Girdle: Slightly think to thick
Cutlet: None
Polish: VG
Symmetry: Good
VS2, F
No Fluorescence
$5,100.00

It''s not huge but it just sparkles beautifully and I love it

But what to do about a band?? I''ve read about the "shrinkage syndrome" where after a while your diamond shrinks

So which type of bands would fit a 1.06 princess cut diamond better and enhance its beauty? A solitare? One with sidestones? DF is not fond of sidestones, he feels it takes away from the center stone but since I''ll be in the one wearing it, it''s my call. Also, it must be 18K white gold (my choice).

Would a band that sits up high be best? I personally do love the thinner soliate bands paired up with a eternity wedding band.

Ok, I''m rambling, lol.

I would love suggestions, as I like the "cleaner" ring styles, also pave has caught my eye on a few of the pictures that I''ve seen here.

I do know that my wedding band will either be an eternity band or a half mood channel ban with princess cut stones.

Thank you sooo much!

What I have found is that a knife edge solitaire or a solitaire on a thinner band (1-2 mm) makes them seem huge. They set up high enough and have that band''s thinness giving the illusion that the rock is huge.

My band is 1.5mm wide. It makes my 6.1x6.1mm stone look huge.

I''m not sure, but I think you are askig what setting will make it look bigger - right?

If that is what you mean, I''ve attached a pic of the before and after of my ring settings. I had the solitaire first, then chose the pave, or bead set frame. The stone is 1.14 RB, ring size 7 1/2. Hope this helps!

Congrats on your purchase!....

Is it a princess cut? Just thinking it might be b.c of the depth and table %''s.

In that case, here''s my ring. It''s a 1.16, but I get asked by jewellers (while looking for a wedding band) if it''s a 1.5!

I think it''s b.c of the simple setting. It makes the diamond stand out more.

I actually got this setting as a temporary, as I really want the stone a little higher, so light comes through the pavillion. That will also make it look a little bigger, I think.

As for a wedding band, I originally thought just a plain band, but now I am really thinking about getting a nice, simple channel set diamond band.

Hope this helps!...Good luck - keep us posted!

Oh, forgot to mention - I am a 4.75 ringsize and the setting is 2.5mm wide Heavy Tiffany Solitaire from Dirt Cheap Diamonds...Just go into their web site and have a look at the pic''s there.

How about something similar to the Michael B Princess ring (just imagine it with a princess cut rather than a round)?
