I'm trying to project plan for the future. I recently (last month?) bought this icy blue with a neon hue tourmaline from a PS member. Originally wanted to pair it with neon red or pink, but the saturation of the tourmaline isn't vivid enough for that. So I was playing around with my melee gems, and found I really like golden yellow orange spess and blue-green emeralds with the icy blue.

My dilemma: I worry that with white gold or yellow gold, the tourmaline might look washed out. The sidestones would get the most pop from white gold, while the center stone would get the most pop from rose gold. Yellow gold would really emphasize the emeralds and bring out more warmth. I really worry about the yellow orange spess make not looking their best. I really love the color combo in the tray, but I can't decide on what color gold.

Can you please help me decide what I should do? Another thought I've had is acquiring lavender sapphire or spinel and going with blue - green - lavender.

I voted for Rose gold.

DK :))

I'm boring. Voting for white gold. Yellow gold is my second choice, then rose gold as long as it's not too brassy. I like the combo as is, and prefer it to lavender stone mixes.

Two tone! Rose prongs/basket for the tourmaline and white gold for the rest. Best of both worlds and everyone gets a pretty dress. =)

Green gold all the way

I like the lavender and a lighter blue. I feel that while the halo colors shown are beautiful, they over power the main stone. I would do the entire ring in white gold. Good luck with your decision!

I’ve always wanted to set a beautiful pool blue tournament like that with spessartite. I think yellow gold will look great, especially in 18k (a more buttery color).

I don't know what shade lavender you are talking about? There is a lot of variation even in the moniker "lavender" (some more periwinkle, some more pink, and some more purple). I worry in the shade of lavender I like, it's hard for the lavender not to overpower the center stone, as well.

I was just referring to your poll where you suggested using lavender instead of specs.I agree there are so many shades in colors. I would say with lavender or blue, just a light shade. It would be nice if it were just a shade or 2 darker than the center stone. Just my opinion. I can tell you are great with color, so I know you will choose something that is beautiful and that you love!

18 k yellow

I vote for green gold (I know its not on the list...lol) Otherwise I could see these in a satin/brushed yellow gold. You can do plated white too which would be more neutral and will not move the needle on any of the stones per se.

I don't see this in RG though...

Regarding green gold, none of the jewelers I feel comfortable sending my custom projects off to do green gold. I'm not familiar enough with how easily it gets dirty, whether it's harder or softer compared to the more common color golds (which I do take into consideration when I have a stone set). I'd rather stay within a modest budget and hence would not consider green gold, which is not even a pleasing green to my eyes and imo not worth the spend.

Do you have a gold color to put behind the tourmaline? Maybe it’ll be easier to decide from there. The color could be completely different.

I don't have all the different colored golds, only white gold and rose gold with me this week.

I'm waffling because of the overall effect (i.e. how the spess garnets would look as well, not just the tourmaline).

White gold for the contrast. Make the color pop more since the tourmaline is pastel.

While I can see the merit and argue for each color of metal, with this particular collection I would used oxidized metal. The blackened surface would enhance and showcase each of the stunning colors of stones without bringing out any underlying secondary colorations.

I meant tourmaline, not tournament, lol!

my auto correct drives me nuts!

I wonder if this would be too busy or prohibitively expensive, but I wonder how it would look if you were to go 2 or 3-tone? I think it could look really cool, especially if you do a bezel.

The way I would do this would be to prong set the tourmaline in any colour gold of your choice (I don’t personally like the idea of RG, and I prefer WG, but dealers choice - I would make sure the setting for the tourmaline and the shank of the ring are the same metal) and (millgrain?) bezel set the other stones, emeralds in YG baskets and spess in WG, so there’s alternating bezels of different colours around your tourmaline. I think that could look gorgeous!
