I'm sorry I don't have much info on one stone yet, but please tell me which you think is better, I'm looking for the best light performance, color, and size I can get:

This is from a PS vendor:
1.65 c
F
VS2
old mine brilliant
Excellent Polish
Very Good Symmetry
Large culet
No flourescence
50% table
63.6% depth
7.41x6.90x4.39

Here's a link to a GOG August Cushion

Here's another GOG August Cushion, and it's a D color, which I would LOVE to have, but its much smaller

Hi again Hellokitty6782,

I own an F VS2 AVC and it's definately very clear without any warmth, (and I'm fairly color sensative), so I wouldn't go for a D unless it was a mind-clean issue.

I'm interested in how the cushion from the other PS vendor compares with the AVCs. Can they send you some pics and an ASET image? It's much easier to pick a top performer with that info.

Ultimately buy the stone that you like the look of. (Do you prefer square or rectangular cushions?)

F is plenty clear. Have you seen a D and F in those sizes in person. I'm really color sensitive and it'd still take me a while to see the difference.

Can you get an Aset image of the non-August Vintage? If light performance is really what you want, it's probably unlikely the nonAVC is better. We can confirm with an Aset. The nonAVC has a nice spread (face-up size) compared to the F AVC, but I'll probably go with the F AVC.

Thanks for your help. I wish I had the ASET for the first one, that would make things easier, but they don't have it.
Also, I can't see the color difference in a D, E, or F either, it's just a "very nice to have" sort of thing with me.

After seeing the ASET for the AVC, I was surprised- it doesn't seem that impressive, not that much dark red but I guess that's the most I'll get from a cushion huh?

Then there's this one which is gorgeous, although not really a cushion

http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/7694/

It's damn near perfect, I lOVE  the look of it, but the measurements are considerably smaller and the PRICE  !!

I prefer the F color cushion :lickout:

Frenchgirl, which one? The first F I posted or the AVC F?

Thanks Frenchgirl,

Ok, I've been looking at the AGS report for this August Vintage Cushion (http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/7089/), and I can't figure out the depth. The diagram shows a % for the crown and a % for the pavillion on the right side. These add up to 63.3%.

But there's also a % on the left side of the diagram, it says 67.8%, so is that the depth? or is 63.3% the depth?

The table on the 1.65 F VS2 I saw in person is about the same as the table for the AVC on GOG (http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/7089/). The AVC is only SI1, and the diagram shows quite a few feathers. The FVS2 seems to only have 2 inclusions, based on the diagram I'm looking at, and obviously they can't be seen as readily as the SI1.

So I'm wondering if all the feathers and possibly a higher depth takes points off the AVC, not to mention that it's smaller, although not by that much.

Is the HCA meant for cushions? I just entered the AVC numbers in HCA and it told me that the crown is too steep and I shouldn't consider buying it.

The F is gone - I hope you are the one who grabbed it!

Yes HCA is for rounds. These type of cushions have high crowns by design.

Hi Kitty,
like ecf8503 said, the HCA is only for round brilliant diamonds and is used to weed out potentially poor performers.

Cushions are entirely different and vary so much in their proportions and facet structure that the ASET and your eyes are your best selection tools.

In an ASET you want mostly red, some green, and a bit of blue for contrast. Avoid stones with ASETS that have large amounts of white/black light leakage.

AVCs generally all have good looking ASETs compared with more generic modern faceted cushions http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7576/ so don’t worry too much about how deep the red is.

Keep in mind that many PS vendors have excellent upgrade policies (the full price paid for a stone is often credited towards an upgrade trade-in, so you can always buy what you can afford now, and upgrade to your dream stone later.

Thanks so much for your replies! Yes, I am the one who put a hold on the F AVC, because it does look really good. I spent a lot of time learning about how to read the ASET and IS images, so all I need now is to see an ASET for the other F I'm looking at, which is Old Mine Brilliant, and absolutely gorgeous. I feel so much more knowledgeable after hanging on Pricescope and using the tools! :appl:

I am not certain, but is the depth of the girdle accounted for? Oh, and the square H&A you linked to is a type of cushion... cushion is a fairly loose term. It is square or rectangular with curved corners...
