Which diamond would you choose ? Does it bother you vs1 has more ‘flaws quantity’ than vs2?

Hi,
I am wondering what is your opinion when a vs1 diamond shows more flaws than a vs2 diamond ? I know these are eye clean but does it bother you ? And does the positions of the flaws matter (maybe affects value even its eye clean ? )

here are two more diamonds I am considering , what do you think the light performance of the the GIA one Compare with other stones ? It doesn’t have the light performance map so I am not sure how to compare .

which diamond would you choose ? Does size conquer all ? ;)

For me, placement of the inclusions does matter. If something can be seen under the table in the magnified video I look for another option unless it's really hard to see. That's just my preference and based on that I love the F VS1 (3rd AGS Cert.) due to it's hard to see pinpoint inclusions.

You didn't post links to the video so I'm saying this solely based on the inclusion plots. If one of the other diamonds looks okay under the table I might change my mind and go for the size increase.

I agree with @tyty333 and would avoid the GIA graded stone due to its steep/deep proportions.

I trust AGS and GIA when it comes to the clarity grade they assign.
I wouldn't try to second guess the experts by counting the number of inclusions.

The number of inclusions, or number of types of inclusions, is only one factor of their complex decisions.
Other factors include (pardon that pun) cosmetic considerations, location of inclusions, and mechanical issues.

So a particular VS2, with fewer inclusions than a particular VS1, must have inclusions that are more serious in some way in the expert opinion of the grader.

Did you put the 2.25 on hold? I cant seem to find it on WF.

The two 1.7ish are both so similar its tough to choose which one! I think if you set both of them in front of me I would not be
able to tell the difference. Does one speak to you over the other? You can ask for side-by-side pictures from WF. Sometimes
seeing them both together makes people lean one way or the other (for various reasons).

Edit...just realized I had the 2.25 up in a previous window. Its also lovely and well the size makes it fall in the dreamy category
for me. :)

Diamonds in the vs range more so with vs2 with a single inclusion are the ones to watch out for them being eye visible from some angles more so than ones with multiple smaller inclusions.
In many fancy cuts a single inclusion vs2 is often not eye clean but rounds do a bit better hiding them.

2.252ct gets my vote - love the 54.8/34.6/40.8 combo!

I currently have the F vs1 on hold! I’ve been working with Michelle for a couple days comparing it to others. Glad to hear that Michelle’s comments pretty much back up what is being discussed here. The clarity plot had me concerned, as well. It really is beautiful!
ETA: Michelle has verified it is on hold for me.

you reserving the stone, helps me make the decisions!
It is a beautiful diamond ! I can’t decide on this one for several days. LoL just because of the many flaws around the edge and also on the face up it has larger cloud ? It probably is illogical since it’s eye clean.

I am actually hoping a nice one around 1.9ct or 2ct would show up, currently I am leaning toward the 1.70ct F Vs1.
I feel 2.2ct for three stone might be too over the top for me. Hahaha :lol-2: (can diamond ever be too large ?)

maybe a 2ct + in the future for solitaire, to upgrade my erring, that would be dreamy !

Thanks, I didn’t know that, I thought vs1 and vs2 are both eye clean :oops2:

Relative size difference of the 1.7ish and the 2.25 on a size 5 finger, 2mm shank.

Thank you for the visual! I am picking center for three stone ring so from the graph it looks like 2.25ct is a bit too big on my finger if I want 0.4 or 0.5 side stone

What size is your finger? I didn't know you wanted a three stone ring. That makes a big difference in recommending the size of the center stone.

Finger size between 5.5 and 5.75

i have always wanted a three stone, super excited that I finally ready to get one as an anniversary ring!

I am thinking to get 0.5ct or 0.4ct for side stone.

You have the 2.25 on hold?!? I wondered where it went to...It really is a dreamy stone!

Sounds like one heck of a 3 stone!! :kiss2: I may have just made your choice tougher…I am backing away from the F vs1. It is beautiful!! The selection is pretty slim on stones in this size range right now and I think it’s best if I wait a bit and see what comes up. I may even be interested in a G or H color, as they seem to be a good value point. Good luck with your ring! I’d love to see what you decide on!

It is dreamy! I decided to not purchase it. I want to see what else comes along. The selection in this size is not abundant and I don’t want to make a choice I may regret down the road. I’ll be honest, it’s hard to make the decision though. Sigh

my current choice is the 1.70ct F vs1, I was concerned about the clarity plot for 2.25ct ( less so now after reading comments here about the flaws on vs1 ) but maybe2.2ct is too much for me as a three stone ? My size is between 5.5 and 5.75. I am also thinking maybe keep searching for a 1.9ct or another 2ct …

1.70 ct F vs1

2.25 ct F vs1

1.76 ct F vs2

Okay, you and I have the same ring size! I have a whole folder of pictures of three stone rings because I have always wanted one. Here is the closest I can find to the size center you are looking at. It has a 1.8 ct center and .5 ct (each) sides and belongs to jaysonsmom. Her ring size is 5.5.

For comparison, here is cflutist's beautiful three stone with an 8.4mm center and .52mm sides.

Wait, I just saw mamabear say she took the 2.25 off reserve. I hope it is you that has it on reserve! It is a gorgeous stone! It is exactly the same size as the center stone in the ring directly above this post. I think it would make a fantastic three stone ring as long as you like a larger diamond ring!

I don’t have 2.25 reserved, someone else does. It would be my dream size to upgrade my ring but I feel it’s too big for my like for three stone.

WF just gave me the quote on 0.4ct vs 0.5 ct side stones, I am surprised the difference is $1000 each, it would be $2000 more to go with 0.5ct. I was set on pairing with 0.5ct but now I am unsure if it’s worth the difference.

is the big price jump due to current situation ? or it has always been a steep increase between 0.4ct and 0.5 ?

At every 0.25ct increase there is a price jump generally for diamonds.

That's why it seems better value generally at 0.4ct or 0.9ct etc. so it is just a touch under those mark where the price jumps.

here are two photos with center 1.7ct, one is with 0.4ct and has this ‘tucked in’ look, the other is with 0.5ct and it’s more of the look I am looking for. I don’t really like the ‘tucked in‘ look.

I am not sure if I should try to have the side stones set higher or go for the 0.5ct to avoid the ‘tucked in’ look. any suggestions would be appreciated!
