Dear all, I have a budget of up to $800 and have been looking at these two choices online. Would be happy to hear your thoughts. Both do not come with any certificates.

Number one: 18kt hallmarked ring. No weights for emerald or diamonds. Per seller emerald has surface wear and diamonds may have some chipping. Prongs look worn to me. Cut is a bit wonky on the emerald but I love the color

Number two: 14kt ring. No weights for stones.

I love the first one, it’s a gorgeous setting.

Have you worn a ring with that much n/s space as the navette before?
Rose cuts vs the old mine or whatever they are of the first one is different look- just depends what you are going for?
I’d want to be sure the rings/prongs are in good enough condition to wear, and the vendor stands behind it. If you need to pay for rehab, you need to know what that’s going to cost upfront. Because you want to wear these, right?
Emeralds are notoriously difficult to photo.
Bring them both in and return the one you don’t want. Both from same vendor maybe? I’m sure they’d be ok with that.

@Rfisher thanks for the suggestion; yes, maybe best to buy both and see in person to compare.

Do you think a price of around $600 is fair for each? (I know $600 isn’t a lot, but since none of the rings have any lab reports, I’m just scared to end up buying glass/paste or stimulant.) Both vendors say they will take returns though, but it’s a pain to fight that battle esp now given PayPal’s new policy on not refunding transaction costs.

The first one looks too included not to be an emerald?! And paler than trade ideal which makes me think it is genuine. The second one is smaller stones which makes it harder to see.

@meely Thanks for taking the time to look and share your wisdom, I really appreciate it!

Not sure I’m wise pinkmartini :lol-2: but I joined pricescope in 2014 over an emerald ring and only purchased one this summer! So I mulled it over and looked at plenty in the interim. That said both rings are pretty and I think you could be happy with either!

I would pick the first ring. Not sure if synthetic would be a deal breaker for you, but I'm more sure that the inclusions on the first ring makes it more likely to be a natural stone. The second ring doesn't show much glow, and that could be the photo technique but could just be that the emeralds themselves aren't as glowy. I think the navette style is a very bold outline that could work for you, but is just not to my taste as I don't think I could stack anything with an outline shape that severe.

i like the first one
they are both such different styles

Are either stamped or did the seller acid-test the rings to arrive at 18K and 14K? (Oops, I now see that the first one is "hallmarked," so I'm guessing that refers to the 18K).

I'd ask for straight-on, full profile photos so you can better see how worn the head, gallery and shank of each -- especially the 1st one -- are.

I prefer the second ring myself for its design. The first one looks less refined to me.
Just my personal preference and all that.

DK :))

It completely depends on what you’re going for. If you want an emerald ring that is all about emerald, chose the first.

If you want a ring that has emeralds in a famous design, chose the second.

Personally, I’m not thrilled with the first, and much prefer the second in terms of aesthetics. Just my humble opinion and taste. You need to follow your own gut in this. Which one is most on your mind?

@Pinkmartini87 would you be willing to share the vendor of the 1st ring, promise I won't snake it but I love the style of one of the other rings.

@CSpan Sure, it’s JillVacarraJewelry on Etsy
