I found two necklaces in a jewelry store today. I couldn''t decide one I should get so I got both (I can return the one I decide not to keep). I''d like to give one of them to my sister as a combination Christmas and "thank you for being in my wedding" gift. I''ve written about my sister before; she''s not into jewelry or dresses, so shopping with her has been an experience. She''s happy to wear whatever I want, but I want her to be comfy. Here''s a picture of her dress and the two necklaces. Which one would you choose? I should mention that the swirly one is small, although it looks massive in the photo. The pearl one only has one diamond above the pearl, not as many as shown (I couldn''t find the exact pic online). Should I keep looking?

I think the swirly one would be perfect for a contemporary/nontraditional type of setting and the pearl one would be perfect for an elegant/more traditional one. For someone who doesn''t do jewelry very often, maybe the swirl one would suit her better because it could be worn with anything really.

Though it really takes everything in me to say that because I''m a pearl girl to the core.

Of the two, I prefer the pearl with the one diamond. It is simple and elegant. I guess you may want to keep looking but I don''t know your time frame [sorry] and your other constraints.

As a non-girly girl myself, I like the swirl one, and could see myself wearing it on a daily basis. The pearl is very pretty too, but IMHO, not very distinctive.

Thanks for the opinions, Alicia and DiamanteBlu. It''s so hard to decide and I really love both (heck, I may decide to kep one for myself

). Alicia, our wedding won''t be too formal (it''s an 11:00 ceremony and reception immediately following, both are at a restaurant/wedding venue). It''s not a beachy, casual kind of wedding, but it''s not over the top formal either.

Maybe I could let her open both on Christmas and let her choose?

Any other opinions? I''m fine with continuing my search, but at this point, I think I''m too late to go the online route.

Thanks Selkie! I think we were posting at the same time. The pearl necklace shown isn''t exactly like the one I bought but it''s pretty close. I think I agree that the swirl necklace is a little more distinctive though, and that''s one of the reasons I chose it.

Hmmm... I like the pearl better.

Which do you think your SISTER would like better?

Is there any way you can engineer some sort of ruse to find out?

i vote the pearl -- very classy and she can wear it again with lots of different outfits. i think the first one looks a little youngish looking but that may be the effect you are looking for

Indy, I''m not sure which one she''d like. I have a feeling if given the choice, she''d prefer the swirly necklace, but I could be wrong. I think I will end up keeping both for now and let her choose on Christmas morning. I''m also going to run over to my parents'' house and ask for my mom''s opinion as well.

Hi Ringster,

Well, although my sister is a little kid at heart, she''s 28 (almost 29 at the time of my wedding). Hmmm, I''ll have to think about that. I wasn''t going for the young look.

Zoe,

I think both are lovely. Is your sister more traditional or modern?

If she is more traditonal - maybe the pearl one?
If she is more modern - maybe the swirl w/the diamond?

You say she doesn''t like jewellery ... yet. Maybe if she gets the right piece, she will channel her inner jewelry fairy and become a devout PSer?

If you have more time, maybe you can look around a little bit more to see if you can find something that speaks to you on behalf of your sister? Good luck!
