I searched the Natrual Sapphire Company for a 2ct+ blue sapphire. So many choices. Here are the ones interest me. Please provide some advices (cut, color, price, etc) !! Much thanks ahead!

B147
B170 - Is that inclusion on the side of the stone I see? Will that be considered invisible or VVS1? Otherwise, it looks great. Anything else that I should know?
B154 - is that lavendar hue I see? Very certainly pretty.
B130 - I like the cushion cut.
B139
B159
B142 - a little over my budget but the color is wonderful

Here is another stone I just saw. Why the huge price difference from NSC? (I am a rookie)

P.S. sorry about not able to attach.

Hi, DotDot...

It seems to me that the best approach would be to narrow down your favs to two or three and then telephone NSC and have them talk you through the differences between them. I tend to assume that since they are almost all the same price per carat, that they are all of similar quality.. They all look nice, and they all have AGTA certs....

For fun, I''m posting three of my favorites: TOP: 154 (my favorite if it isn''t too dark), MID: 159, and BOTTOM: 142

There is a shocking difference in price between the ones above and this one from Simply sapphires...(less than half the cost)...clarity, cut issues, perhaps?

If it''s cert specifies its country of origin, then even more remarkable the price difference...

definitely 154.........best shape and most intense color

All the stones you've chosen are beautiful, I can't comment on the reason for the price difference since I don't have much knowledge in this area.

My vote - B139.

This company, like most good ones, will allow you an evaluation or return period. Use this time to examine it your self and have an independent appraiser/lab check it out for you.

As for simplysapphires - like widget - I have not figured them out yet. Some of their prices seem very low for untreated. It would be great to see someone have some of their sapphires sent to a good appraiser/lab to see what is up with their stones. My guess is zoning/clarity issues as compared to the best from cherry and natural.

I'd bet on color (unknown quantity judging from pictures alone) and the huge difference of size and scope between the two sellers

Will that be considered invisible or VVS1?

About ''VVS1'' - these grades are a different matter than diamond. There is no official ''flawless'' grade for colored stones and most would never use the word following this habit. ''VVS'' should mean better than eye clean. ''VS'' something barely there if you obsess and look really hard... and it goes down from there. Basically, these grades for colored stones are allot more sensible and related to the appearance of the stones rather than the tenuous rules regarding size and quantity of inclusions as it is done for standard diamond grading.

All in all, I would not worry about a pinpoint visible or not quite visible (what are you talking about? I can''t see much) in a magnified picture. As far as I know, inclusions are allot harder to see in pictures of colored stones, so it is better to see them.

And the overall appeal is allot more about color than clarity anyway... pricing may be a bit different, but that I just have a personal hunch without any backing.

I hope all this (=all my posts) do not sound more ''authoritative'' than they should - I am by no means a expert. Just a hobbyist who spends way too much time on this forum!

Thanks, everyone, for all the great advices.
I received the cert from SimplySapphire. The cert does not state the origin of the stone.
No explaination on the pricing is given, other than they have low cost being an internet vendor. Clarify is VS1-Type 2 (which means?) Should I be concerned with the price or it''s just a deal?

Does it break any unspoken rule if I post the certificate here?

I think it''s fine to post the certificate. I like 154 btw.

The cert was available on their site for that stone you listed (click next photos). So no problem posting it here

VS-1 type 2 explained - here. Nothing to worry about. Type II VS-1 is normal for sapphires as long as is is eye clean under most lighting.

I have always believed that you get what you pay for - this price seems low even for the net.

Origin determination has been discussed here often, and with this sapphrie I don't think it matters much.

The only way you are going to know about stone is to have your sapphire sent to a qualified independent appraiser/lab - and to see it for yourself.

Seems 154 has received most favoritable nods. :)

See the attached picture that was cut out from the cert. The reason I initially want to post the cert is that the picture seem to show dark areas around lower left corner and a bit on the lower right side. Does that mean bad cut or just the angle?

I want to be careful before calling any stones in. It would be wasting everyone''s energy and hopes if got returned eventually. :)

Yup, I see that dark spot would make me concerned to. I am no expert, hopefully the real experts will chime in and help you out. I have a beautfiul cushion cut sapphire and I love the uniformity of its color and saturation.

Experts,

Which color is more desirable and why? They are both terrific to me.

Same here. Between two beauties, you should feel free to choose the one that appeals to you. There may be some rules, but no absurd standardization... yet.

I think the "most desirable" color is the one YOU like best!

My guess is that the second stone you posted is the more "expensive" color...if the images are true-to-life. (A BIG "if", by the way

).

To me (and I am NOT an expert) the bottom one has the more classic Burma/Ceylon look of blue with secondary violet, while the first one appears to have green undertones..

Did I mention that I''m not an expert ????

My BAD! (you can still find the content of this unfortunate post in the list of 'edited' version below).

I thought this is yet another stone entirely...

... the poor picture is the scan of a bad picture on paper, I wouldn't expect to see anything at all on it. Even on the lab report, the pictures are just for ID and no more inspiring or informative than the photo on a driving licence

That is precisely what my monitor shows. Perhaps only the current owner can know better than the pictures.

I can only wish that bright, cold blue is true to nature!

I''m no expert by any means, but I tend to love the sapphires that look like deep bluish tanzanite and I''ve noticed that they''re really expensive as well...I think color may have a bit to do with it, as well as location where mined and clarity definately

Is Natural Sapphire Company responsive to emails? I emailed them several days ago. Still haven''t heard back at all. Wonder...

As much as I can tell, the phone works way better than e-mail. The ''Loose Stone Request Form" also seems to get more attention than info@thenat... does.

Sorry for the mess in the previous (now edited) post...

Good luck.
