Which Ruby would you choose?

Hi everyone,
I can’t decide which Ruby diamond ring to buy

I have a choice of this 5ct emerald cut Art Deco Ruby and diamond ring or the smaller 1ct oval Ruby Diamond Ring. Both are around the same price. The Art Deco Ruby has some obvious blemishes due to its age. Would that bother you?

Thanks

The real question is: Would it bother you?

1st question, does one or both have a grading report from a reputable independent gem lab, such as AGL, GIA, Gübelin?
If so do the reports state they are fully natural, as in mined from the earth and there is no evidence of color or clarity alteration from a laboratory?

If there are no reports I wouldn't buy.

But people vary and maybe you don't care.
If that's the case don't spend too much.

What are the metal alloys?
If you post the prices the more gem-knowledgeable here can comment further.

Is there a no questions asked money back guarantee?
If so what is the time period?

If there are no reports, then the 1 ct is more likely to be natural than the 5 ct is, especially if both are offered by the same seller.

It makes me wonder if the 5 ct is a glass filled ruby that is showing wear and tear. Definitely certs from reputable labs.

If both checks out as rubies, then whichever appeals to you more personally.

Style wise and size wise it would be the art deco for me.

If someone were trying to sell me that Art Deco ruby ring, and were telling me something was due to wear because it’s……antique……
That’s what would bother me. That ring doesn’t look like an antique ring - imo.

Other than that
Something simply showing wear due to age, no.
That in itself is not a deal breaker for me.
Much more to it than that - of what I’d take into consideration in choosing.

There is definitely wear on the 5ct emerald cut Art Deco Ruby. I can se the stone is abraded from wear and tear, I don't know the price but I would pass.

The picture of the other ring just is not big enough for me to see good.

Is your heart set on Ruby? I'd consider Spinel or Rubellite if you are not set on a ruby, more bang for the buck, especially Rubellite.

If it's a natural unenhanced ruby, you can repolish the gemstone.

The smaller ruby is darker than I like.

Which ring, considering they're both so different, is up to personal preference and style. Huge art deco pieces aren't for me, I'd go with the classic halo if facing this choice. You may prefer exactly the opposite.

Which ruby is a difficult question to answer if there's no extra information on the rubies based on which to judge.

Can't compare those photos at all. First one is a way over-sharpened turntable shot and the second is an oversaturated phone photo, I believe. Apples and oranges. I like the first ring better but I have no idea what that stone will look like IRL.

Agree with @Rfisher that I am not convinced #1 is a genuine antique. There are too many unknowns here for me say, but if all else is equal, either #1 is more attractive and more valuable, or I would pass on both.

Thanks everyone. I decided not to buy.
