Which size studs for second piercing?

Hey there!

My top 2022 bling goal: super-ideal cut diamond studs.

I have a pair of gem-quality 7.5mm Akoyas from Andrew Moline that I wear daily in my bottom piercing. I want to get a pair of studs that I will wear almost exclusively in my second piercing. I don’t have a lot of earlobe real-estate, and it is unlikely that I will upgrade these studs since I want to have multiple diamond studs for all my piercings. When I want bigger, I will buy a bigger second set.

I bought CZ studs to act as sizers. Unfortunately we have a Goldilocks and the Three Bears situation here.

The smaller CZ studs are 3mm.
The larger CZ studs are 5mm.

I have a pair of 4.3mm diamonds with WF that I am eyeing up and are in my cart.

I also have a pair of 3.8mm diamonds from BG that I am eyeing up.


Which size CZ studs do you like best with my pearls? (With the understanding that the WF studs would be slightly smaller than the larger CZ pair, and the BG will be slightly larger than the smaller CZ pair).

I don’t *think* the 5mm CZs rub my pearls. And obviously I would NEVER sleep in any of these.

I am so used to my teeny current diamond studs (which are less than 3mm) that I feel the 5mm look huge?! But also...DSS is real.

Just to reiterate, I would NOT be interesting in upgrading these, as my budget and plan allows for me to buy a second bigger set in the future that I *will* be upgrading until I have icebergs hanging off my ears

I prefer the 5mm studs (4.5mm for your actual pair) over the 3mm ones. For me, the 3mm are a bit too small.

I do think a tiny stud suits your pearl a bit more, but a slightly bigger one is more versatile. The 4.5mm imo will not be so big that it overpowers your Pearl but also big enough that you can occasionally wear it in your lower piercing.

What size of diamond stud is your ideal size for the future? That would also help determine the size of your second piercing earring.

I am going through this exact conundrum myself.

I am currently wearing 2ctw studs (1ct each - around 6.3mm) in my main piercings and 0.25ctw (0.125ct - around 2mm) in my second piercings. Pic below.

I quite like the look of the smaller studs, but I’m thinking I will go to 0.5ctw (they’re 4.1mm - don’t have a pic of that size). I don’t think I want to go any bigger than 0.25ct each.

Looking at your pics I’m thinking ‘mama bear’ sizing of around 4mm might be ‘just right’ for you too.

Just wanted to add….If you are planning on bezel set, my preference would be 3.8mm and if prong set I would go with the 4.3mm.

I prefer the smaller set. It complements the pearls.

The larger one is starting to compete for my eyes attention.

Funny thing is: If I only saw your set with the larger stone, I would say- that works.

I know that is a vote for either set…. Covering my base! Lol.

I think I would like 2ctw, so 1 carat in each ear. But I'm starting to doubt the amount of real-estate of my ears... there's not as much room as I originally thought, haha!
I'll probably start with 1ctw, .50 in each ear and upgrade to the 1 carat in each ear.

ha! this seems to be a common problem! I love the sizing difference you have, I think it looks really nice!

Thanks everyone! Seems pretty split 50/50. That's good, that means that either way the overall look will be pleasing and not too over the top, and not too underwhelming! That makes me feel more confident either way

Thought the 3mm/.20ctw looked a teensy bit too small, so then I bought 3.2mm/.33ctw. They look too big, I should’ve gotten 3.1mm/.25ctw. A .1mm difference, am I really that picky ?!? Yep

This is PS, you're in good company with being 1mm picky haha! Good to know! I am leaning towards the smaller ones at the moment!
