Hi PSers, I bought this pair of diamonds in mixed colours from a gem fair last Oct. The first thing that came to my mind was to set it into a pair of earrings for my mother. With such happy thots, I bought it. Then I chunk it aside till one day I realized her birthday is nearing and I'm still lost with what I'm gonna do with it. ;(

The colours from top to bottom are green, pink, white, yellow and white.

Any ideas to make it a perfect present?

What a great bunch of diamonds! I love their elegant, happy colors.

What style of earrings does your mother wear? Does she get dressy sometimes? Or more simple?

What about something along these lines:

Obviously the proportions aren't the same, but you get the idea. You could even have them done so the drop diamond detaches & the part with the small ones kind of like diamond-fronted hoops to be worn alone for less dressed-up times.

They're so pretty together, dreaming up a setting is going to be fun! You're a special daughter!!

Oh gosh! Laurie, you are so talented! I love it!! With the idea of interchangeable drop diamond at the bottom, my mother will not get tired of changing to achieve a few looks. This is certainly something for a dressy event be it formal or casual.

I can't imagine the detach mechanism at the back. Will it be secure? Do you have an idea how it will look like?

I'm definitely going along this line. I've another option of just the arrangement of the diamonds as it is top down, non dangling and modern design if you get what I mean. I'm searching for the photo to post....

Yes, seconded :appl:

Such beautiful colours, especially in combination, and I love Laurie's idea!

I'm not much of a jewelry designer, Snowyrin, but the small diamonds could be on the front of hoops & the large ones attached to rings that would slide onto & off of the hoops. This example is, em, a little more ornate, but gives you the idea:

Or like this one, where the ring slides on the top of the earring when the back is removed. The little ball keeps it from coming off the other end & it's very secure.

A view of a similar setup from the front:

A jeweler (or more creative types here) could come up with a good way to do it for not a lot of money. Just a thought. They'll be beautiful no matter how you set them -- what a super group!

What pretty ideas!

I'm not a fan of dangly earrings, so could I suggest stud earrings? They would be so classy!

I'm kinda bored at the moment, so i drew you two designs:

untitled_11.png

1. The left is to have three of the smalls on one side, with the other small stone opposite;
2. Or a bezeled design? (maybe with miligrain?) then she can rotate the earrings to whatever angle she wanted!

Thanks all for your wonderful suggestions and talented artwork. Laurie you ARE a jewelry designer, all those photos are really pretty to the extend I feel that my diamonds are not worthy. The 0.5 carats are tinted, there's a large pinpoint and there's a black area right at the top of the crown in one of the diamond. I'm very distracted by it. Therefore I might be getting a new pair of 1 ctw for my mother. And I'll just wear this pair as a stud with the small fancy diamonds around it close to the artwork done by Sonya. I lose my earrings easily so I won't mind the flaws. :cheeky: Ok, jus another reason to purchase new diamonds.
