Hi guys,

First of all, I want to thank everyone for the help, I am getting here. If I buy a WF ACA, am I guaranteed a great diamond, as long as I stay within certain parameters? Eg color G or above? Also, we both want a three stone ring…………on a 20K budget………..how much should the center stone cost? 15K?

Any opinions on Bluenile Astor?

Regards
Corkman

20K budget, How much are you allocating to the setting? What sort of 'side stone' and how much are you allocating to those? Subtract and what is left is for the center stone.

You're guaranteed a great cut diamond with ACA or expert selection no matter the color. It just depends on your color tolerance.

You should look up settings on WF and see how much a 3 stone setting you like costs. Then use the rest of the $ for the center

Well, that’s my question! I am thinking of 15K for the center stone, and 5K towards setting and side stones. Is this a reasonable breakdown? Or should I spend less on center stone,?

Without knowing what setting you like, I couldn't say one way or the other. Whiteflash butterflies is really popular, and they can source side stones for you. My guess is if the side stones are small then setting will be less than 5k.

What kind of ratio do you like for center-to-side stones? Do you like bigger side stones are smaller side stones?

I like the Butterfly
Trellis is nice too

If you want more baskets to hold the stones these are nice...

Sides...any 2 of these 3

Here is a comparison of all 4 stones together. Click on a Diamond video, let it load, and then click on an image again to
make them spin

And here is a virtual size image to see what the .60ish would look like with the 1.59 stone on a size 6 finger (you have to
imagine them all together like a 3 stone)
You can play with it here if you want to change finger size/stone sizes

Also, you can call Wf and ask them to provide you pictures of what a stone with side stones would look like (resting between someone's
fingers) plus just additional pictures of what a main stone looks like with possible side stones.

Edit...I think the above main stone, 2 side stones and a setting will put you around $20K. I suggest you look at the pictures at the
bottom of the settings to see the rings made up for other customers to get a better idea of what you like. Also, I bet if you find
a ring that you like the ratio on (main to side stones) they can help you figure out what it is.

Excellent questions. Just because something says ideal doesn’t make it ideal. Meaning the sites still have a bit of loose parameters that you have to look out for. That being said you are looking in both their top tier categories. What they don’t do is filter for imperfections. Meaning you can get an Astor but have a pinpoint center black or slightly hazy material. Or a cavity, knot etc. they are just going by statistics.
15k is def a good budget and you should get a nice diamond. I would also recommend trying yourdiamondguys.com. They aggregate from both those retailers and run not only a statistical analysis but also a visual. So you can put in what you are looking for and it only spits out the top of the triangle. So they have 2 filters. One is statistics and the other is visual. Occasionally something slips through but very very little. They will recommend WF or Blue Nile diamonds and others . Worth a look for sure. It’s very helpful. A lot of good info as well.

What you spend on the setting versus the center stone is kind of up to you. You can probably spend as little as $1500 on the setting in 14k gold, stock mounting, with 3.5mm or smaller side stones. Or you could spend $10k on the setting hand forged in platinum with .80ct side stones. So you need to be more specific before we can help much.

I recommend David Klass for a custom 3 stone if you find something you like and want to tweak it to your personal style/proportions for sides.

Hello,

As far as three stone rings are concerned, it seems everyone here likes WF Butterflies and Trellis. Why not the more fancy ones, like Clara Ashley three stone or Rounded pave?

It's just personal preference. That's why folks are telling you to pick one based on your own/the recipients preferences (I forgot if this is for you vs someone else)

Then go for it! Or if there are some things you like about it and others not, go the custom route. But it’s yours… so get your dream ring

People often like simpler settings for gems because it opens more options for bands to pair with it.

Does a simpler setting, showcase the diamond more?

It certainly can. The setting depends on your aesthetic and how much the wearer wants to baby the ring. Pave, halos, etc. can be more delicate and require greater care sometimes when wearing them. Some prefer diamonds be the star of the show in polished metals; others prefer the adornment of extra diamonds in halos or diamond studded settings. The choice is yours!

What size is the finger this is going on?

I wouldnt go with anything with 3 sided pave. You're getting too delicate where you have to baby it. Think...take a small piece of metal
and poke holes in 3 sides of it and then put it under the pressure of wearing it daily. Opening doors, carrying groceries, etc. So, it can
really depend on how much she wants to baby it. Most of us prefer to keep it to a minimal so we dont have to worry about it as much.
Also, with a 3 sided pave ring you have to watch what kind of wedding band you put next to it. The diamonds will eat in to whatever
you put next to it (you dont want diamonds against diamonds). You would want to separate rings with a simple, thin metal band so
the diamonds on the side of the engagement ring can eat into that (and it can be repolished or cheaply replaced).

Maybe just pave down the top side of the shank if you want a little more bling? However, this ring is for you, or your partner, get what
you like!

I'm not sure if you can do this with bigger side stones...you'd have to ask WF.

Hello there,

My fiancés finger is 4.5
We are not doing any wedding ring. Both of us, like the aesthetic of just one ring. We like a fancy setting, but did not realize about the babying part!

Thanks

Got it @Corkman ...then you are in good shape as far as not having to worry about things rubbing together. I dont want to talk you
out of something you really like so follow up with Whiteflash if they have seen any issues with the rings with a lot of pave.

It's more about education and making the right decision for you. For example...6 prongs on a stone are safer but there are plenty
of 4 prong settings out there...we all decide what we can live with/without.

4.5 is a pretty small finger (lucky)...this will be a lot of ring for that size finger.

Delicate settings covered in pave need to be handled with a little more care. I believe that all fine jewelry should be treated gently — don’t wear it when doing chores or yard work or when using your hands like at the gym. I also don’t wear my rings to sleep or in the shower, though some people do. If you have a setting that is covered in pave you might want to be extra careful. For example, only wearing your ring when you leave the house (or are lounging and want to look at it at home lol) and not wearing it to sleep the gym or ever when using your hands. This ensures that the ring will stay lovely for decades. For those of us who like to care for our fine jewellery like this you may want to also buy a plain gold band to wear when going to the gym or using your hands for chores etc.

Some people wear their diamonds 24-7. If that is your preference you probably need a setting that is all metal and not so delicate.
