Hi Everyone,

I am looking for an ideal cut 1.5carat diamond and this one has caught my eye over most of the current White Flash inventory: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-di...olor-vs1-clarity-round-ideal-cut-sku-a4553625

Its about $1,000 less than a 1.5carat diamond my local jeweler was selling to me and has a much superior cut and clarity.

What do you think of this diamond?

Also curious on your thoughts of buying this diamond and having my local jeweler set it?

Thank you!

Spectacular choice. If you aren’t aware the WF diamond is part of their ACA collection which means it’s a hearts & arrow stone with ideal light return performance. The stone will exhibit edge to edge brightness and produce big rainbow fire. I believe you will be very satisfied.

Other perks is WF is a top tier vendor that treats you special from start to finish. They are interested in developing a long term relationship and not a quick one off sale.

Additionally you will have access to their premier upgrade program which means you get 100% trade credit for your current stone as long as you choose a stone of equal or greater value. No other red tape or special conditions which makes upgrading a true perk as you could focus on size upgrades, color, etc.

Point blank WF is who I normally recommend as they have the whole package. Speaking to price, normally H&A stone costs a little more so I’m not sure what your local jeweler is trying to sell you but if it’s not the same caliber of stone as WF (which most aren’t) and they are charging more then they are trying to price gouge you IMO.

Personally I’d give WF an opportunity to set the stone for you. They have a wide selection of settings and can also do custom work. And if your setting has melee (small diamonds) in it then rest assured that WF melee is also H&A quality so the little ones have max fire too.

And if you really want to get savvy on a future trade option then WF is the only vendor I know that offers 50% trade value on their designer settings like Vatche, Tacori, etc. Not as sweet as the diamond upgrade policy but again no one else normally offers this and at least you get something in the future.

A last thought. If you’re concerned about using a local guy I wouldn’t give it a second thought. I bought my wife a stone from BGD (similar quality to WF but not as great of an upgrade program) and had a custom setting made by David Klass in Los Angeles and shipped back to me on the other side of the country where I have used random local jewelers for routine cleanings, inspections, etc. I’ve moved a few times and had to reestablish relationships but it’s not really been an issue. Most jewelers appreciate having such a caliber of stone come through and I normally get to know the managers, talk shop and even make friends.

If that diamond was a baseball, then it just won the game with a grand slam.
Snag it and you'll never have to look back...because you'll always be looking at it!

I appreciate your thorough response. I backed out of the diamond from my local jeweler and reserved the ACA. Based off its dimensions/percentages it was not worth what they were asking. Although it was a GIA XXX, it barely qualified as one.

A weekend of stress and anxiety fueled self-education helped me find the ACA stones from WF - I think I fell in love looking at these! I am pretty impressed with WF and their customer service so far.

I do already have a deposit down for a custom Tacori setting with my local jeweler and they are offering a 10% discount which is about $1000 off. It's hard to say no to that.

Did you by chance ask WF about their price on the Tacori setting? Just thinking that might be simpler if they could match the price to have it all done at WF. Just a thought!

Congrats on getting the ACA!

Agree with @MissGotRocks. WF is a Tacori dealer and will be able to perform whatever customizations you want. Based on the pricing of their stone, I’d be curious how the setting price compares for the same identical setting from WF.

It sounds like the local guy is selling the Tacori for $10k, as 10% off would be $1,000 you noted. It’s at least worth a conversation with WF. They may not offer 10% off but if their retail price was $8k then you’d be money ahead. Plus for that price I’m assuming the setting has melee stones and WF will use H&A quality melee which will be similar quality to your main center stone.

Also, Tacori is one of the designer brands the 50% trade offer applies to at WF. So even if dollars were the same you’d have $4,500 trade value at some point in the future where the local guy will offer you $0 trade for the setting only or maybe scrap/melt value which is basically zero.

Same as the local dealer - $9990 for the custom setting. I will ask WF if they could match the 10% off.

Thank you!

Fortunately they are not marking it up beyond MSRP($9990), same as WF for the custom setting.

Interesting point you bring up about the melee stones. I was under the impression that Tacori would source them, but sounds like the specification comes from the purchaser?

The 50% trade in is impressive. I will have to consider that as well.

I have one and can say Whiteflash's ACAs have fantastic light performance.
Also their polices, and customer service are top notch!

I'd always get the diamond and setting from the same vendor.
Otherwise, problems may arise, such as the setter refusing to insure the diamond they're setting for you because they didn't make a dime from you by selling it to you, finger-pointing between vendors if there's damage during setting, etc.

The reason I didn't buy both from WF was because I couldn't.
The diamond was from WF, but I wanted a tension setting in titanium, or cobalt chrome.
Few vendors make those settings, and I wanted a vendor with the specialized expertise, and I got it from Bonnerings.

I've been on Priscescope around 20 years and have read countless testimonies praising WF.
And the rare WF customer with a complaint is often responded to here by a WF rep.

I’m curious about what the setting looks like!

That’s a gorgeous setting. Even if WF can’t price match the setting I’d keep it all together. You will have half the value sitting in “trade reserve” when the time comes. Less headache and less finger pointing if something should happen during setting. IMO, smart risk mitigation.

And if you look at the dollars only — you saved a $1,000 on the diamond, which makes the money a wash. Yet managed to get a super ideal H&A knock your socks off diamond.

Looks like you are going through the same process I just did. That is a great setting and she will love it and the diamond. I ended up getting a ACA diamond through White Flash but doing the custom tacori setting though my local jeweler who has been exceptional with the customization process but I already had a tacori ring to trade in for the custom and tacori gave me 65% of the cost towards the custom setting. I would take the advise here and go through White Flash for both if you already haven't started the process with your jeweler locally.

Thank you all for the help and guidance. I appreciate having a community like this to share their experience and knowledge.

I'll definitely post photos!

Congratulations! She’s a lucky lady!

I don’t want to take any risk so I am going to keep it all together with WF. Liza was able to offer a unique solution to save me even more! I live adjacent to a no sales tax state ;)2

Perfect! Will be so nice to have the diamond mounted in the setting arriving to you!
