I can''t remember posting about these places before but if I have, I apologize. We''re considering a few places for our wedding and I''m wondering if anyone has any insight, advice, thoughts, etc. Please let me know if you''ve attended weddings at any of the following places. It''s a long shot but I thought I''d try.

The Snowflake Inn, Jackson, NH *

The Eagle Mountain House, Jackson, NH

Nestlenook Farm, Jackson, NH

The Nonantum Resort, Kennebunkport, Maine

Clay Hill Farm, York, Maine *

The Hartwell House Inn, Ogunquit, Maine

* = our favorites so far

I grew up in Kennebunk, Maine and actually worked at the Nonantum during high school.
It is gorgeous and they make GREAT food. I love how it is right on the water where all of the boats are. The hotel is separated into two buildings. The main building is older, but has a lot of charm. Sort of bread and breakfast type feel. It has a manual elevator with a lever! The other building is called "port side" or something like that (It's been a while) and it is newer but just as beautiful. The hotel is right next to dock square so your oot guests can have a fun place to walk/shop in all of the little stores. There is something for everyone in Kennebunk! It's right down the street from George Bush Sr's beautiful house and I mean the VIEW...COME ON! It's GORGEOUS. Rocky coasts. Seafood. People bicycling. I love it there.

(Can you tell I'm homesick? Tell that fiance of yours that he is LUCKY to live in New England!)

I'm not engaged yet, but I have checked out the Nonantums prices but I don't think it will be something I am able to afford when the time comes. There is always hope! I would give my right arm to be able to be married there.

Thanks HH! I just googled this but couldn''t find it. I found a Stone Hill Inn in Stowe, VT but nothing with that name in NH. I''ll keep trying though. We looked at the Mt. Washington a few weekends ago and although it''s incredibly gorgeous, it had a more formal feel to it than what we''re looking for. I''ll look at the event cetner at Loon now.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi Luckystar!

THanks for your thoughts on the Nonantum. We went there a few weeks ago and although it would be too expensive for us in July (which is when we''d ideally love to be married), April is doable. I''m a teacher so I need to work around my school calendar. The girl we met with at the Nonantum told us that with the time of year we''d be looking at (April if it''s there), our guests would stay at the Portside Lodge (I think that''s the name). Unfortunately, all the rooms were taken while we were there so we couldn''t see any of them. There was a huge convention at the resort that day and the tent was set up. It was good for us because we got an idea of what a tent looked like on the property.

My FI and I really liked it and my mom and I are planning on going back for another visit in a few weeks.

Isn''t the Maine coast great? I love it! I grew up near Maine and I go there every chance I get. Actually, we just got engaged in York at Nubble Light. It''s one of my favorite places!

You''re welcome. :) I agree, the nonantum is expensive. I just checked the prices again and it would pretty much be our whole budget just for the hotel.

But, they have earned the right to charge that much, for sure. I can''t even remember what the rooms looked like...but I remember I thought the ones that were portside were nicer. I actually sweated it out in the basement of the port side building every night doing laundry! I got paid like 12 bucks an hour to do it though...and I can guarantee they have nice linens. hahaha. It was actually one of the funnest jobs I''ve ever had.

I wonder if it''s even possible to pick a bad location when deciding to get married on any coast in New England!
I think Maine and New Hampshire just have so much beauty and class. All of the towns have so much history and each one has it''s own perks. I really really miss it there. I''m hoping to get married in Maine, but it''s all going to depend on when I get engaged and if my FF''s grandfather will be able to travel.

I don''t think so! I''m partial to New England. Both my FI and I grew up here and it''s great. I love being so close to both the mountains and the coast. If you ever wanted to get married at the Nonantum in the low season, we were told it would basically cost almost half of what they charge for their high season. That''s what made me look there for an April wedding because there''s NO WAY we could afford it in July.

One of our favorite places is Clay Hill Farm in Cape Neddick. It''s not on the water but it''s so pretty and it''s not far from York and Ogunquit. it''s a bird sactuary as well as a restaurant and wedding venue. Very pretty!

The Samoset Resort in Camden, ME is another beautiful choice, but pretty pricey from what I can remember. It''s right on the Maine coast and has gorgeous grounds. I agree though, zoe, you can''t wrong with a New England coast!
